Last weekend I spoke at a Blog conference about time-saving and how to be productive as a blogger. I thought I would share something today from a broader perspective for bloggers and non bloggers alike.  How some small daily habits can help to boost your success.

 

Boost Your Success With 12 Daily Habits

 

There a few characteristics that most successful people would share, being focused and working hard being just two. However, there are habits that we can all learn to adopt which can improve our successfulness in work or in our home lives.

 

Serve first

I think being a good person goes a long way in this world and I fully believe that helping others makes you a better and more fulfilled person. If they return the favour then that is wonderful, but you should not be giving with any expectation of receiving. Remember it is nice to be nice.

 

Complete your least favourite tasks first

Do you put things off? Is there one task on your todo list that you don’t really fancy and consequently it is getting lower and lower on the list?  I believe you will have a more pleasant day without that task looming over you, so get it done and ticked off. This will change your mindset for the rest of the day.

 

Don’t do what you’ve always done

If you do what you’ve always done, you will get what you have always got. So if there is a particular part of your life that you wish way more positive and successful, CHANGE what you are doing in that area. Look at it with fresh eyes and try something new!

 

Use the morning to your advantage

If you are an early bird then don’t hit the snooze button; get up and start your day. Do all the tasks you need to get done while the rest of the house sleeps. If you are a perpetual snooze button hitter, STOP IT! Get up as soon as your alarm goes off and before the bed convinces you that just another few minutes will be o.k.

 

Work smarter

This is so important, whatever your day involves, make sure you are being as efficient as possible. Are there any tasks you could automate? Work tasks or personal things like getting the shopping delivered, both would give you more time to spend elsewhere. Be strict with the time you give to tasks and stick to it, don’t get stuck on Facebook all afternoon!

 

Devise a personal mantra

This might sound a little bit hippyish, but I promise you it can be very powerful. You can have different mantras for different aspects of your life and simply recite them to yourself when needed. For example, if I am trying to lose weight and struggling to keep motivated I always think ‘A year from now you will wish you started today’. If I am having a bad day with Baby and tantrums or undesirable behaviour then I tend to focus on ‘This too shall pass’. They can be quotes you have heard, or something more personal to you. What they do is to draw the mind back into focusing on the desired goal.

 

Celebrate success along the way

It is so important to give yourself a pat on the back as you reach smaller milestones along your journey.  Whether you are hoping for weight loss, career success or anything else, motivate yourself to continue by celebrating your small wins.

 

Take breaks

You need breaks to refresh your mind, in order to be able to keep focus and be successful. Without them your output will drop with your productivity. Even a 10 minute break every hour will be enough to boost you brain and clear your mind.

 

Believe in yourself

Often this is quite hard, as we tend to be much harder on ourselves than we are on others.  The mind is a very powerful thing and I truly think that self-belief is such a gift. If your mind is on-side and working with you, no self-sabotaging, then you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

 

Stay focused

If you are struggling to stay focused in your working life, then you need to close windows on your PC, turn off notifications and really focus on one task at a time. If it’s success in a more personal aspect of your life I recommend focusing on the end game, and thinking about what your life will be like when you have achieved the success you desire.

 

Write it down

Writing something down has a very powerful effect. It makes the task seem more concrete and it will help to get your mind focused on your tasks. Oh and we all love crossing things off a list!

 

Achieve through modelling

Modelling is a psychological concept where people learn by ‘modelling’ the behaviour  of others. The direction this takes depends on the success you wish to have, but perhaps you could read the success stories of the people who have the success you want; learn from their journey.
