Do you want to work with brands? Are you tired of waiting for them to come to you? Have you heard about pitching to brands, but don’t know where to start? Never fear, I’m here to help!
I’m going to share my step by step process to help you kick start pitching to brands. Have you got a notepad and pen? Right then, let’s get started.
Step 1: Write down your five favourite brands.
Grab your notepad and have a wander round your house. Look at the brand names on the products you use regularly and love. Make a note of clothing labels, kitchen equipment; all the brands you’re a fan of.
This part is important as you want to pitch to brands you actually like. That way if your pitch is successful the collaboration will be authentic. Discount any brands that don’t fit with your blog.
Step 2: Find the right person to contact.
Now you have your hit list you need to find the right person to contact. You’re looking for the person in charge of blogger outreach. However, if you can’t find that person PR/Press would be a good start. From here you can look through the press information and you might find the name of the person on a press release or other coverage the brand have received.
Make sure you are following them on the main social channels.
Step 3: Get connected
Now you’re going to start to get their attention. Craft an authentic tweet about their product/service and tag them. This is a great way of putting yourself on their radar. If they follow you, you will be able to direct message them and ask for the name/email of the person dealing with blogger outreach. I go into more depth and add some extra strategies for you in my FREE webinar – 5 steps to working with brands as a blogger.
Step 4: Get your intel
Check out the brands social profiles/feeds to see what they’re currently promoting. This is going to help you figure out whether your pitch is going to land well and tie in with the brand’s current campaigns. Remember brands are going to be planning ahead, so it’s important to get your seasonal pitches to the brands in good time.
Step 5: Draft your pitch
Draft an email using my pitch template. The ideal pitch is concise (don’t give them all the details), professional, clear and intriguing.
Attach your media kit and ask if they would like you to send a more detailed proposal. Then send it! Get it done and move on. Remember, you might have to send 10 pitches to even get one acknowledgement. Don’t take this personally. Just keep trying.
