Our little big girl

It feels like ages since I have written a post about Baby. She is changing daily and so I wanted to share a glimpse of the little girl she is right now.

She’s not quite three and a half, yet she’s desperate to be a grown up. So much has happened recently and she surprises me constantly at her ability to learn and remember anything she hears. Before preschool ended for the summer, we had a catch up with the head teacher, who told us that she’s super bright, active and especially gifted with maths. She must get the maths thing from hubby, as I am not amazing at maths. She has come to totally adore preschool and although it tires her out, she relishes every second she spends there. With great friends and fabulous teachers; I will be so sad next year to have to take her out of preschool when we go to France.

Her confidence is amazing, her favourite thing is paying for things in shops. A couple of months ago she queued up at the cafe in the park, asked for a hot dog, paid, waited for it and brought it back to the table with a gigantic smile on her face. I was so proud of her. Now she wants to ask for everything in shops and pay for everything we buy.

I have no frame of reference, as Baby is our only child and I never looked after children before having her. So I never know where she should be in her development and her abilities. I think maybe that’s a good thing, as I don’t put limits (within reason) on what she can do. The other morning she wanted to make her own scrambled eggs for breakfast and so she did, standing on her little step, cracking and whisking eggs, popping them in the microwave, stopping it to whisk some more. The only thing I helped her with was getting out of the microwave the final time when the bowl was too hot. She was so proud of herself.

She has recently started taking herself off to the loo too. Often not needing me at all. Time moves so fast, it only seems like a matter of weeks ago that she was in nappies.

Our dogs have become firm friends of hers and she likes nothing more than to play in the garden with our youngest dog Lily; throwing her ball and running round after her. I think Lily loves it too. Our older dog, Lou Lou (pictured) just prefers cuddles.

We are both enjoying sharing Sali the pony and are so grateful to her owner for allowing us to ride such a special pony. Baby happily trots on the lead rein, not needing the stabilising hand of mummy that she once did. The other day we were trotting/running round a stubble field and I looked back over my shoulder to see her holding on with one hand, the other on her thigh and a beaming smile on her face. I think she was born to be in the saddle.

That’s not to say everything is always rosy. We do have tantrums and very challenging behaviour, much more directed towards me and not her daddy. I’m not really sure why the switch flicks sometimes, and I don’t think she knows either as all she wants to be is a good girl and gets so upset by her behaviour. Hopefully it’s an age thing and her behaviour will just even itself out over time. She’s such a loving child, who cares so very much for her family and all of her little friends.

I count my blessings every day that I am her mummy.
