It seems that this time of year everyone is falling foul to germs and starts feeling unwell. Baby is full of cold and Mr Hubby is heading the same way. On Saturday we had horrendous weather and we spent the day hauled up at home, something we seem to be doing a lot these days. So, we knew we had to get out and enjoy a brief break in the rain. We love the outdoors and days out, we just seem to always have lots to do and so this is an area of our lives that has been a little neglected of late.
We thought it was more sensible to stay close to home, just in case someone took a turn for the worse, so our local town got out vote. This also meant that we could combine playing in the park and a trip to feed the ducks and swans, which Baby adores. Nothing hugely exciting, but any chance to get out in the fresh air with my little family was more than welcome.

After a quick shop-stop to buy bird food (we have had it drummed into us that bread is bad for wild birds), we headed toward the park. Stopping on the way at this beautiful bandstand, which was the location of this quite fabulous puddle! Something which Baby can never resist.

Baby decided she needed to go the the park before going to see the swans, so off we went. She played on the slide and rides, before her and Mr Hubby decided to play various ball games, leaving me free to snap away (oh, and carry everything!).

Then, after lots of fun it was time to head to the swans.

We are so lucky that where we live is close to a canal, which is home to many species of bird and they are all VERY friendly! The swans will follow you down the canal, if you walk alongside and they will get out of the water to eat straight from your hand, if you are brave enough. There are also lots of ducks, which I think are Baby’s favourites.

Pigeons are also in abundance; last time we went ‘feeding,’ one ate straight from the bag of seed I was holding. This time they went one better, eating straight from my hand. Baby even managed to stroke a couple of them too. I love how gentle she is and how it means she can do things like this.

I couldn’t believe the colours of these brown pigeons, I couldn’t capture it very well, as it is hard to shoot a DSLR with one hand only, especially when it is your left hand, but mixed in with the fawn colours were the most wonderful shiny purple and teal colours, totally stunning. Although the flocks at our feet would not be for the faint hearted and did resemble a Hitchcock film!
Then off we went back home; only I got dropped off 4 miles away and walked home on my own as part of my walking marathon training. When I got back it was blogging, bathing and snuggles for the rest of the day, but I am so glad we got out into the fresh air.
