A couple of weeks ago I introduced you to a pony, Honey Bee, that Baby had begun to share, meaning that she would get to ride three times a week. We were trialing the arrangement, for a number of reasons, not least that the stables was a forty minute drive from where we live. Also I wasn’t totally convinced that the pony was 100% bombproof. Baby actually fell off when Honey shook and it did make her nervous; a trait I have never seen in her with regards to ponies.
On the positive Baby enjoyed her time there and the arrangement was flexible, which suited our hectic diary. Then a couple of weeks into the trial the owner decided to sell Honey, meaning Baby wouldn’t be able to share her anymore. Just as she was starting to build her confidence again.
So the search was on for a new pony. Perfect first pony’s for share aren’t ten a penny, so I wasn’t super hopeful. However, a friend messaged me and tagged in her friend who had a pony which she thought might be suitable. We chatted and fixed up a visit that weekend to meet the pony, Sali and her friend Rambo.
We arrived and I got on with the owner right away, such a lovely lady. Her girls aged 3 and 6 are the perfect playmates for Baby. We met Sali and Rambo before it was time to take Sali for a ride. We all walked round the fields on the farm, in a twenty minute ride Baby went from slightly apprehensive to completely chilled, happy and back to her normal self, the power of ‘Sali’. She is such a gorgeous pony who is the type to really look after her little jockeys.
J, the owner, is so lovely and has said we can basically go to ride whenever we want, which is just wonderful.
We went up last week and Baby did her first trot, she adored it and was laughing so much. She calls trotting ‘bouncing’ and just wanted to keep doing it. Three short trots later, I told her Sali was tired, so Sali and I could have a break!
My confident little rider has returned and it was a total joy to see her so happy; enjoying riding so much.
A massive thanks to J who is so generous letting us share her wonderful pony.
