I have mentioned a few times on this blog about my dry hands. In the past the dryness has been so bad that it has actually caused me a lot of discomfort. I had tried lots of different brands of handcream and nothing ticked all my boxes, until I tried Aveeno. My main issue, with handcream in particular, was how greasy it left my hands; especially the more powerful creams. I tried Aveeno last year and was so pleased with the results; non greasy, easily absorbed and it really did make a massive difference to my skin, even after just once application.
A couple of weeks ago I shared a post highlighting the new Aveeno children’s book that is available to download. The book follows the story of the characters Ellie and Eddie, as is a way to help children with dry and eczema prone skin become happy with their skin care routine. Which for little ones with sore skin can be difficult. Baby is lucky not to have serious skin issues, however, for me considering how quickly my skin can deteriorate I use Aveeno on her skin too. If a dry patch appears I know that Aveeno will quickly sort it out, which is reassuring as obviously you don’t want your little ones in discomfort.
We were recently asked by Aveeno to share our ‘Dry-Venture’ with you all; how we fit Aveeno into our routine and to share some top tips. They kindly sent us a GoPro® camera to capture it all. Last week went on holiday to Cornwall and thought it would be great to share some of our holiday fun and how we used Aveeno while we were away.
As someone who has struggled to find the right cream, I know how important certain factors are in a cream/lotion. If children have a bad experience with a cream, which feels sticky or greasy, then it is going to be more difficult to apply that to the child in the future. So here are some tips;
Choosing an emollient
- Must be pleasant to use
- Non-perfumed
- Non-greasy
- Easily absorbed
You need to ensure your child’s cleanser is soap free and is also
- Pleasant to use
- Non slippery
- Moisturising
- Easy to rinse off
Emollient application
- Apply after bathing when the skin is wet and so it will be more quickly absorbed
- Apply frequently and all over the body
- Use a downward stroking motion
- A child should use 4 tablespoons of emollient per day (9 for an adult)
- Develop a regular bathing and moisturising routine
- Use a kind, easily absorbed, non-greasy emollient.
I have total confidence that Aveeno will look after both mine and Baby’s skin. I am no longer wasting money buying creams that I end up washing off, as they feel too greasy. I think it is fabulous how Aveeno have created this downloadable book, which will help parents and children to care for their skin.
Do you or your child have dry skin? Have you tried Aveeno?
Disclosure: We were gifted a GoPro camera in order to produce this post.
