5 Things; You Need To Be A Blogger

Welcome back to ‘5 Things’.  This week I am sharing;

5 things

You need to be a blogger

  • Time – The amount of time you need depends totally on what you want to get out of your blog.  If you just want to blog a couple of times a week, then you will obviously need less, than if you want to make blogging your job.  Just writing a simple post can take quite some time. Taking into account capturing appropriate images (which usually involves chasing your child round and trying to get them in a good spot of the house, looking at you, doing a certain task all at the same time), editing the images, writing and proof reading copy.
  • Determination – Again I think this is closely linked to what you hope to achieve from your blog.  The more you want to achieve, then the bigger the dose of determination you will need. I am always burning the midnight oil and working at every opportunity, as that it what my blog demands at the moment, in order for me to make it a success.
  • High embarrassment factor – I think this is possibly more important as a vlogger, but I still think you need a low awkward factor.  You will end up photographing the most random things, vlogging in public and basically doing odd things to get copy/images.  If you embarrass easily this will be tricky for you.
  • Honesty – In my opinion the best blogs are honest ones.  People will connect with that person, their honesty and their truth.  They will keep coming back because of it.  You then build a community around your blog, which is lovely.  I don’t want to read blogs that are just negative ranty spaces, but I will always be honest (even if I don’t go into huge detail) if my week/day has been pants!  People need real people to connect with.
  • Blogging friends – I have spoken about my wonderful blogging friends so many times on this blog.  Blogging can be quite a solitary experience, unless you have your own tribe.  However big or small, formal or informal, having friends who are in the same boat helps more than you will ever know.

What other characteristics do you think you need to be a blogger?  Do you embarrass easily?

I would love it if you could spare the time to vote for me in the BIB awards (‘Family’ probably fits my blog best)

  1. Brilliant little list! I couldn’t agree more with every single point you make. I think you also need to do a range of things other than blogging. Otherwise, you would have nothing to write about 🙂 I’ve already voted but Hubby is doing his nominations tomorrow and you’re on there! xx

  3. Top tips huni 🙂 totally agree about the embarrassment thing..I mostly have to get over this factor when contacting brands with a proposition and either not getting a reply at all or getting a ‘thanks but no thanks’ email back! Awkward! Xxx

Ah thank you huni. SO glad it is useful. If there is ever anything you would like me to cover in Blog Club, just let me know and I will try x

  4. Hi, I found your blog from #SundayStars. Great list and you are so right. Blogging friends are great and makes it so much more fun. I wish I had more time to devote to my blog, at the moment I only post once or twice a week. But still loving it.
    Enjoy your blogging!

  5. Totally agree with all of this! Time is so tricky when you’re a parent, and as you get more and more readers etc it’s harder keeping on top of things! Great list thanks for sharing #sundaystars 🙂 Jess x

  6. Another great post by you – I learn sooo much from reading your posts. I have to admit to feeling the ’embarrassment factor’ with taking photos when out and about with my ‘big’ camera – I’m worried people will be thinking ‘what on earth is she doing’? But I guess I’ll get over it lol x

Thanks huni, very kind of you to say and I am glad the posts are helpful. I had it recently when I was reviewing a selfie stick and I could see people whispering, but it’s my job so I had to just get on with it. xx

  7. I think ‘time’ is my biggest issue. It’s okay for a hobby but I’d love to be able to sit and write every day and earn a living but time gets in the way!

  8. Great list. Working on #5, I am really enjoying getting to know different bloggers and their blogs, we are all so different/individual. And thankfully I am not interested in vlogging , I am not so good in front of the camera.

  9. All so true, time is always as issue with me, but who has spare time on their hands ? Honesty is massive I would never put anything on my blog I didn’t like, and friends are key this is what has helped me along the way and picked me up when I need it. Determination is something I have found i have lots of too, like you say Aby it takes determination and passion to work the hours we do, but blogging has enriched my life and I am so grateful that I took the plunge and stated writing, the doors it has opened and friendships I have formed are overwhelming, I am so lucky x

  10. Totally agree with everything you have said love. Time is the one thing I seem to be lacking at the moment even though I’m up until all hours. Trying to look after a house full to the brim with kids just isn’t productive for blogging, even though they are the inspiration in the first place lol xxx
