They might not be the Oscars, but the bloggers very own yearly awards in the form of the MADS (MAD Blog Awards) and the BIBs (Brilliance in Blogging Awards) have both opened for voting.
They are met with mixed reaction from bloggers. Some people become semi-obsessed with canvassing for votes and others barely acknowledge that voting has begun. I think in reality most of us would love to be nominated, make the short list and ultimately take home an award. Blogging is quite a solitary pursuit and often we press publish, never quite knowing how posts are going to be received. We might get comments or shares, but often we don’t know where our blog sits in the landscape of blogging. At the end of the day everyone likes a pat on the back, a bit of recognition for the effort they put into things and blogging awards are a big pat on the back to us bloggers.

Now, I did think long and hard about whether to write a post or ask for votes at all. Last year, I was nominated in about five categories for the MADs, not reaching the shortlist and in the BIBs I was totally gobsmacked to reach the finals in the family category. To be one of the five finalists is probably my proudest moment in my blogging career so far. I never expected to win, at all, not for a second. Nevertheless countless messages of support were sent to me which was wonderful. I won’t lie, even though I fully expected it, I was gutted not to win. Strange really, I thought I would lose, I lost, yet I was still sad. No, it makes no sense to me either. What I did feel (again being super honest) was a feeling of being not good enough and a bit of a failure really. Unfortunately this is the type of person I am, I wear my heart on my sleeve, I judge myself harshly and I let one negative boat in a sea of positivity make me feel like I have failed at the whole thing. Yeah I need to work on that!
So here we are in 2016 about to go through it all again. I thought about not doing anything, can I cope with it all again? I should say I don’t think I will get anywhere, but just the whole process, even simply voting for others can have its stresses. Then I thought I would dearly love to win an award, it doesn’t mean my blog is better than anyone else’s, but for me it would be a pat on the back, a signal to myself that I am doing o.k. With this in mind, if you enjoy my blog and would like to vote for me in either awards here are the details you will need. Thanks in advance if any of you do!

I see the argument from both sides but I’ve also decided to put myself forward for both awards. Why not? I love my blog, as you do yours, and we’re both proud of them. I’d love to make any of the shortlists but if I don’t, life goes on, doesn’t it?

Exactly, it all goes a bit crazy, but if you are proud of your work and your blog than why not x
I’ve seen it from both sides. Sat and watched last year and believed that actually there was no chance to even be nominated let alone make a shortlist. I watched bloggers trying to gain votes and in may ways I saw it as desperate but now, a year later, I can see why it’s important. So much goes into your little blog that any pat on the back affirming what you do must be nice. This year I’ve joined the ranks of promoting but equally still have no chance in my mind to even be shortlisted. I don’t mind though because it’s nice that people have told you that they’ve nominated you in something.
Love your blog and I have always seen definitely categories where you’re placed and quite deserving in them too. Good luck, really hope you do it!

It is such a funny time of year! Thanks so much, you are very kind x
Aby you need not worry, I am sure you will have a cabinet full of trophys this year and definitely have my vote for more than one category for each! If for any bizzarre reason you don’t win them all then please just be safe in the knowledge that you are well respected, well loved by us bloggers and a regular read for lots of us. I love seeing your little family, your adventures and you are one of my first ports of call when I need advice for my blog or a good read. Fingers, toes, eyes and legs crossed for you anyway, but I recon you’ll smash it xx

Oh huni that means such a lot. I really appreciate your comment, thanks so much xx
Good luck lovely, you thoroughly deserve to be there for all you do in the blogging world and for your lovely words and pictures. I will cross my fingers for you. I do find it a funny time of year, but I will always ask once (or maybe twice for votes) I think any blogger would admit even if they don’t want to, that it means a lot to them! While they aren’t the be all and end all, it is so wonderful to be recognised by your peers. Good luck and you have got my vote! xx

It is such an odd time, it seems to bring out the crazy in some people. Thanks so much for your support, you are very kind xx
I was so torn this year too – for the first time ever I have a blog that actually fits into a category (newbie) but at the same time it is super new and I have yet to discover if there is even an audience for it. But, in the end I decided that every single blogger puts so much of themselves into what they do, why should we not nominate ourselves and others? That being said, as you mention, even if shortlisted those feelings of “not being good enough” can creep up out of nowhere and when you think about how few winners there are in such a vast social of bloggers that is an awful lot of disappointment… So here’s to all of us, award winners or not 🙂 Because we’re all good enough!!
