Want to know how a membership community can help you succeed? Are your family supportive of your online endeavours? Do they understand the ups and downs and can they help you make decisions about the future of your business? If the answer to these questions is yes, you’re very lucky and I’d hazard a guess to say you’re in the minority. Most of us, even if our family try to be supportive, have families who’s support is limited. They might not truly ‘get’ what we do or why we would spend all the hours we have trying to drive our business to success.
If your family have traditional ideals, then it can be difficult for them to encourage us to strive for our entrepreneurial dreams. Personally, although my husband is supportive, he doesn’t have an entrepreneurial mindset and would hate to work for himself. So he can’t offer the same level of help and support as one of my entrepreneur friends could. He’s just not wired the same and you know what? That’s ok.
While we can be successful on our own, it’s easier (and more fun!) to belong to a group with a common interest. A group that helps and supports us when we need it.
There have been numerous studies on the benefits of belonging to a group. One such study by Hogg (2001) showed that the view we have of ourselves can even be positively impacted by group membership.
If we strongly identify with the assumed group characteristics, then we will ascribe the characteristics of the typical member of these groups to ourselves, and so stereotype ourselves. For example, if we believe that college students are intellectual, then we will assume we, too, are intellectual if we identify with that group.
The shared goals, the feeling of belonging, the supportive environment and countless other factors can make groups a positive place to be.
We’re so lucky, in our modern world, that we have so many options. We’re not bound by geography when it comes to finding like minded groups of people. We can join a group in a matter of seconds and in minutes have even set up our own online group.
One of the most common forms of group in the online space, aside from free Facebook groups, are online membership communities.
What are the benefits of joining a membership community? How a membership community can help you succeed.
Joining a group of like-minded people has multiple benefits:
1.Education
Most memberships are based on education. They are devised to fill a knowledge gap for their ideal customers. So by joining you will be tapping into this education source, in one place making it easier for you to learn and implement.
2. Support
We all need support and there’s nothing like the support you get from being around people with similar goals and desires. You can push each other and learn from each others mistakes too.
3. Community
‘People come for the content but stay for the community’ The positive benefits from the community aspect of a membership should never be underestimated. Having a tribe of people who have your back is quite an amazing feeling.
4. Advice from experts
You will get first hand advice and guidance from the membership owner who is usually an expert in their niche. Often for this advice you would be would be charged, but it’s freely given within the membership.
5. Sounding board
Who do you run ideas past? Who can you brainstorm with? Joining a membership gives you an immediate sounding board built in. This can save you lots of time and help you create better products and services in the first place.
6. Results
Most membership sites are offering to help you on a journey. That might be to lose weight, get fitter, start a business, leave your 9-5 or countless other objectives. They are offering a transformation. So by joining and putting in the work you will be able to go through that transformation supported by people who have done it before. Increasing your chances of success.
7. When you pay you pay attention
When people pay for information they are more likely to consume it, implement it and consequently benefit from it. You invested so you’re going to do the work. Let’s be honest we can all do with a little internal motivation to keep on track and striving for our goals. Paying often provides that motivation.
8. Levels of information that build to beyond the basics
A membership site will often be constructed to help multiple people at different levels within the same journey. So while there might be basic information in there for those getting started, there will also be more advanced content too.
9. Make real connections
The internet brings together people with similar likes and outlooks to life. This means the friends you find online can often be a better fit for us than other mums at the school gates. The connections you can make in a membership can turn out to be ever more impactful. These people don’t just have the same wants and desires, but they have the same commitment to achieving them too. They have committed cold hard cash to be apart of it, so you’re on the same page as them from the start. I know people in my membership consider each other like family.
These connections can help you and your business grow, with your own cheerleading squad looking on in support.
As you can see the benefits of joining a membership both personally and professionally can be huge. Sharing your dreams and journey with your own tribe is amazing and motivating.
If you’d like more information on my membership community specifically for mama bloggers (one papa in there though!) then you can check it out here – The Revolution Inner Circle. I’d love to have you be part of it.
Are you in a membership? How has it benefited you?
