There are a few pages you should have on your blog if you want to monetise it and turn it into a business. On such page is a Work with me page (another is your About Me page!). I see quite a few bloggers assuming that brands will know they want to collaborate, but this isn’t enough. Brands and PR companies are really busy, often dealing with multiple clients and campaigns at one time. So it stands you in far better stead to make their lives as easy as possible. Never assume they know how you work. Tell them, better still show them.
There are two main types of work with me pages.
- One to appeal to brands
- One to appeal to clients – if you’re a coach/ service provider /freelance writer/VA/Tech support etc
Although these pages are aimed at a different audience, the main structure of the page could be similar. Remember, the aim of your work with me page is to get people to work with you. Therefore, the page is really a pitch.
When you’re making any pitch you can use this formula;
- Call to attention – Use any question to clarify leads. ‘Do you struggle to…?’ ‘Do you need to…?’ ‘Do you feel…?’
- Offer an invitation – Share the end goal/transformation you are providing. ‘Would you like to learn how to master yoga in 5 minutes flat?’
- Make an offer – Explain what you’re doing. ‘Come along to my fb live today and i’ll share my 5 top tips to mastering yoga and improving your health’.
- Call to action – Tell them what to do next – ‘Type in the comments to let me know if you’re coming’. Or give them link and say click here to sign up.
Before I dig into this formula and how to use it specifically on a Work With Me page, I want to stress something. Try to be as original as possible, show what you can do, think outside the box. Use the page as a mini portfolio and you will create a dynamic page which generates clients.
1st step: Define the problem
Show the reader that you understand the specific problem that they’re facing.
Here’s how to identify the problem:
- What’s the big frustration that your target client currently has?
For example, it could be reaching a certain demographic or getting value for money for their clients etc. If you’re a Virtual Assistant it could be that your potential clients are super stressed and never working on their business, just in it.
Why is this important?
You have to show the reader that you empathise with them and truly understand what their current situation is (so you can eventually position yourself as the solution).
I want you to check out the couple of Work With Me pages – neither are perfect, but they are good examples of above average Work with me pages and so they might give you some ideas. Take notes if anything stands out that you would like to implement on your own.
Examples of great pages (they don’t follow this formula, but have positives);
Niche specific problems
I also want you to think about the problems business might have in your niche and how your blog might be positioned to help them.
Let’s say you are a go-carting venue in South Wales. You might be struggling to find a way to reach people local enough to come for the day. Mums aren’t reading the local papers and so you can’t connect with them. Enter Ceri who can demonstrate that she can influence lots of Welsh mums of go-carting aged kids via her FB page. So she could use this idea on her Work With Me page, to start attracting these rural businesses that mainstream media can’t effectively target.
Make notes on the issues faced by brands you would love to work with. Start to think about how you can fill this gap and solve their problem.
2nd Step : Show the results
Now you’ve got to show the potential client that you understand what they desire. The more tangible and specific you can get here, the better. e.g. What’s your service going to help them to achieve? What are the specific, tangible results that it will help me to get?
Here’s how to identify the results:
- What’s the goal of your service/offering? What are you helping people to achieve?
- What will people be, do, have as a result of your service?
How can you show these results in a tangible way?
If you’re a writer you can link to examples of your work. Bloggers link to past sponsored posts and reviews. Dig into analytics to find out were your power lies, you might be surprised at who you are actually reaching. Then think about how you can close the gap.
Step 3 : Make your offering clear.
You now know the problem (the thing your clients desire) and the solution (you!). So it’s time to tell people how you’re going to get them there. This is where you present your service package and tell them everything that’s included.
The potential client wants to know what they’re paying for.
- What is included in your offer from start to finish?
- What is the process with the client?
- What are the features + benefits of each of the things included in your service?
Also think about creating different packages. Offering packages, rather than everything individually can be a great idea and more lucrative. Three levels e.g. Bronze/Silver/Gold – plus bespoke options on request, could be a great place to start. If you offer three of anything psychologically people are more likely to plump for the middle option. Use this to your advantage, if you have two packages add a higher level one.
Step 4: Add testimonials and a call to action
It’s natural for people to have hesitations. Especially when buying things or hiring people online. The best way to overcome any potential hesitations is to add testimonials from people who have worked with you in the past. These testimonials are considered more valuable if they have photos of the people with them.
Every piece of content you create should have a CTA and so your Work With Me page should too. If someone wants to work with you what action should they take. Make sure there is a clickable email link for people to contact you straight away, rather than a contact form.
Step 5- Putting it all together
Remember people process visuals 60k times faster than words. Often visuals are left off work with me pages, leaving them as walls of unexciting, uncompelling text.
Think about how you can share the information you have in more exciting ways. There should be a picture of you, but could you also include a video to share some information. This would be more dynamic, while also showing how you are on camera.
Could you graphical show the demographics of your audience. Also include logos of the brands you’ve worked with that click through to the content you did for them.
These ideas will help you write an irresistible work with me page that will stand out for all the right reasons. Are there any new ideas here which you can implement?
