With Spring on the way, you might be thinking about making some changes to your living space. The promise of warmer weather will see many of us changing things up to breathe new life into our houses after a long, cold Winter.
It is possible to freshen up a room with a few little pieces and tweaks. However, if you have a larger budget you can splash out a little more and give the whole room some attention.
Here are a few ideas that will make a difference to your space depending on your budget;
On a shoestring
- Change the layout – Get a pencil and paper out and see what new layouts could work for your room.
- Declutter – Clear out all the unused bits and bobs, creating cleaner lines and more space.
- Go green – Add a well chosen plant, bring the outside inside and add some softness to your room.
- Focus on the finish – Time to tidy up the odds and ends that you have been meaning to finish off.
- New art (or make your own) – Why not create a piece of art to be a focal point on the wall. Get the kids involved. You can get canvases from the pound shop, add some masking tape, paint and create something unique.
- Accessories – Choose an accent colour & use a few pieces in this colour to accessorise the room.
- Re-purpose items – Have a look round the rest of your house and see what might work in your living room.
- Paint one wall – Even with a small budget you can add a splash of colour to a focal wall, which will completely change the look of the room.
- Furniture make over – Consider giving your existing furniture a lick of paint and perhaps some new knobs.
- Window dressing – Adding a blind or changing the curtains could give a tired window a boost.
- Change lighting – From changing a lightshade to adding a floor lamp, there are lots of things you can do with light, which don’t have to cost a fortune.
Have a larger budget?
- Change the flooring – Whether you prefer carpet or the cleaner line of a wooden floor, a larger budget would allow you to make a larger impact on your room.
- Treat yourself to a new settee – Multiyork have just launched a fabulous collaborative collection with Monsoon. Bringing the gorgeous fabrics and colourways that you would associate with their gorgeous clothes to a range of settees, chairs, footstools and cushions. So beautiful and a sure fire way to update and glamourise your living space.
- Wallpaper – Wallpaper is a wonderful way to add colour, texture and interest to walls. It is also a great way to make uneven walls look a little more polished.
- Add a focal point – i.e. fireplace – If your living room lacks a fireplace, consider adding one. You don’t have to have a traditional open fire for this idea to work.
