Tesco Made Mother’s Day

On Mother’s Day I had a lovely surprise.  Mr Hubby had been in cahoots with Tesco.  I will let him explain all!

Depending on personal circumstances, Mother’s Day can be a wonderful family time or a sadder day reflecting on memories of much missed loved ones.

 

We have a mixture of circumstances in our house so, whilst remembering those who aren’t with us any more, we celebrate the day as well. Baby is not quite three so this was only Aby’s second Mother’s Day and the first that Baby really had an understanding of things.

 

 

As part of their Mother’s Day initiative, Tesco sent us an amazing hamper full of creative items and ideas for us to use to help make Aby’s day special. The idea was to prove that creating and clearing up after a special Mother’s Day breakfast needn’t be an ordeal that takes up most of the day. There was even a tray included so breakfast could be served in bed!

 

Three breakfast menus were included in the hamper – yummy yoghurt pots, easy peasy croissants and chive scrambled eggs and muffins, along with some of the non-perishable ingredients and a gift card with which to purchase the remaining items and some extra treats.

 

I chose the Smoked Salmon and scrambled egg menu as there were elements that all three of us would enjoy for a family breakfast. I also chose some Bacon as it added an extra element for Baby.

 

 

I’m not the most romantic or imaginative bloke on the planet so don’t tend to buy flowers very often; so much so that I could expect to be greeted with a ‘what have you done wrong’ if I turned up with any.  However, our local Tesco store had a wonderful range of cut flowers and plants on display so I picked up a mixed bouquet. There was a vast selection of items in the Mother’s Day aisle too so I also chose some cute chocolate flowers.

 

Baby loves crafting and, although a little young to be challenging the works of Monet, she more than makes up for it with her enthusiasm. We ‘decorated’ one of the cards using the craft pack provided in the hamper (although, for me,  this mainly involved picking up pen lids from the floor and asking Baby to put the scissors back).

 

 

Attempting to keep things a surprise is futile in our house – no sooner had we finished than Baby announced “we’ve made you a card” when Aby walked back in the room!

 

 

We were also sent a heart-shaped biscuit and some icing pens for Baby to decorate. This proved tricky as all she wanted to do was try to eat it herself but we did manage it in the end.

 

 

The day itself wasn’t helped in our house by the arrival of various tummy bugs but the breakfast of Smoked Salmon/bacon, scrambled eggs, toasted bagels and the obligatory vat of tea was a definite hit.

 

Baby ordered Aby to “stay there and don’t move” whilst we brought in the treats we had bought and made. Her face was a picture as she handed them over (although she took the chocolate flowers back quite quickly and claimed them as her own).

 

 

The cut flowers still have pride of place in the living room and there are even some of the chocolate flowers left. However, I think this is probably only due to the fact that Baby is still poorly.

 

 

I know that, with the help of Tesco, Aby had a lovely day.
