We live in the house that Mr Hubby has lived in since he was about 8 years old (so a LONG time….). One year after Christmas, they planted the Christmas tree at the bottom of the garden. Over 30 years later, this tree is still going strong and it is now taller than our house! I hate this tree, it is hugely annoying, taking all of our light due to its gigantic size.
So this Christmas I decided to get my own back on the tree and use some of it to make a wreath. I should add a disclaimer now *I have never made a wreath or done any flower arranging*, but I like to try something new and I knew it would be cheaper.
- I purchased a metal wreath ring from a lovely florist for £1.
- I went and attacked the tree with a pair of scissors and a certain amount of glee.
- Using black cable ties, I started from the middle at the bottom and covered each side (upwards), just slotting a new branch behind one I had secured, tucking bits in where I could, until it seemed plump enough.
- Adding some silver painted salt dough stars (that were for an unmade garland, but have come in really useful this Christmas!), a couple of big stars (which were 50p each from the florist). Then finally the rosette from the top of the ribbon roll, a big silver bow and more ribbon to hang it, were all added.
- Total cost= £1 ring, £1 for both big stars, £1.50 ribbon (max. I bought three £1 rolls, but they have done 3 jobs and are still going!). I had the wire, spray paint and cable ties. So £3.50, not bad at all!
Some may consider it a little rustic, but I actually really like it.

Oh I love it Aby!! I wouldn’t know where to start but it seems pretty straight forward. I had a tree like that- Mr F chopped it down this spring! Took a week but it was that or pay £900!!!!!! for someone else to do it!! x

Thank you huni! It was super easy, not done the proper or posh way but it is effective and super cheap. We were thinking about getting ours chopped down, but as we are moving might not be worth it. x

Oh I love it, a fab idea! we cut many of the back branches off our tree to stop it touching the radiator that would have been perfect for this! next year I will use the discarded branches to give this a go 🙂 xx
