We all know that play is important for our children.  Through play they learn and hone their skills.  Imagination and creativity develop best with lots of exposure to new experiences and plenty of opportunity to play and explore the world around them.

There are many ways to play creatively.  From around 15 months they will probably begin this themselves, with their toys or objects given to them.  They may pretend to eat and drink.

Baby is obsessed by drinking imaginary tea.  She has a fake sip and says ‘tea’ in a Carry On film voice.  So one of her favourite ways to play creatively is have a tea party and as a tea obsessed Mama I quite like that too!

creative playI recently gave Baby play doh for the first time.  We had bought some, but there are lots of recipes on Pinterest if you fancy making some!

Creative PlayShe wasn’t hugely keen on the Doh itself, but she did love the pots.  In fact, she used these pots to pretend she was drinking tea!  I see a common theme developing in Baby’s creative play.  Actually when I think about it, when we are playing in the garden her watering can becomes a tea cup too!

Creative Play

Maybe we should try encourage creative play that doesn’t involve tea!

I hope this post has given you some inspiration for creative play.  Maybe you have other ideas of how to play creatively?
