6 essential summer jobs to do around the home

There’s no better time of the year than the summer to be outside in the garden soaking up the sun. The warm weather and longer lazier (!) days make the perfect setting for barbecuing or just enjoying a tea party on the lawn.

Your home should be a source of pleasure, inside and outside. Sadly winter can lead to our outdoor space  becoming a little tired and looking worse for wear.  So it’s really important to prepare and get your space ready for maximum summer enjoyment. Jobs like clearing out gutters or freshening up walls with a lick of paint are quite obvious, but what other tasks should be prioritises before summer really kicks in?

• Check your locks

It’s a good idea to check the locks on all your doors every season just to make sure they’re secure. Check all window locks too to ensure they all still function correctly.

• Check all electrical items

Make sure all your electrical goods have sound cords with no loose plugs or frayed wires.

• Roof maintenance

• Put fly screens on doors

• Replace/refresh garden furniture

If your kids are anything like Ava then they will LOVE to help you take a bucket of water to the garden furniture and give it a spruce up. If anything needs replacing then you can do so. Better to do that now than when you have people round and realise you’re a chair short! Check any wooden furniture, including steps and decks, for rot and repair/replace any rotted or protruding nails.

• Give kids items the once over

All swings, slides, climbing frames and playhouses need to be thoroughly checked to make sure rot or rust hasn’t set in. Repair and damage so you can go into a busy summer season happy that everything in your garden is safe.
