Our house is full! There is no doubt having children means an instant increase in ‘stuff’ and we are, quite frankly, bursting at the seams. I think one of the worst hit places is our bedroom; everything gets put in there, especially when we have guests stay over. I long for an organised and tranquil space, in which to relax. However, before that happens we have some serious organisation to do. Here are my top tips for organising your bedroom.
- Be brutal – First things first, you need to enter the room armed with bin bags. Tackle every inch of your room. If you haven’t worn an item of clothing for six months then bin or donate it. Try to remember the last time you used items and whether you really need them.
- Vac pac clothes – Clothes that you will still wear, but are out of season, can take up less space if you store them in vac bags. The same goes for duvets and spare bedding.
- Sliding door wardrobes – Consider built-in wardrobes, which really do hide a multitude of sins and give you plenty of extra space. I love these frameless sliding door wardrobes, they would be perfect for our room.
- Use the walls – Use shelves to store and organise your bits and pieces. I love using storage crates as shelves, so think outside the box!
- Maximise storage under the bed – Even if your bed doesn’t have drawers, you can still utilise this space for storage. Use drawers from an old cabinet or simply use storage boxes.
- Repurpose items – For example, a rail and shower rings fitted into your wardrobe can be great for keeping scarfs tidy.
- Multifunction furniture – Side tables need to have storage in them, as well as being a place for your bedside lamps! Alternatively, you can place freestanding storage under them, perhaps a basket for books.
- Move out unnecessary furniture – Think about what needs to be in the room, if there is any unnecessary furniture in there, then move it out, giving yourself a bit of space can make the space more relaxing.
- Use drawer organisers – Or even shoe boxes in drawers to keep things together and prevent drawers getting chaotic.
- Think creatively – Look at every bit of space in cupboards and make the best of it.
Wish me luck! What tips do you have for organising your bedroom?

Our last home was a lot smaller and our room became a storage room for all thing baby. I had no tranquil space. We are lucky now to have a home where my bedroom is now my own. My tip is throw away, or donate (even better) the things you no longer need. Only keep the real treasures. Splash out on a beautiful bedspread and soft lighting, it’s worth it.
I so need to get organised and sort out the clutter in our bedroom – think it all boils down to doing no. 1 for me! Thanks for sharing 🙂
You’ve inspired me with this!!!! Our room is a complete tip at the moment so it needs sorting ASAP!! Might just throw everything and start again lol xx
