It’s Friday, so it’s time to link up with the lovely Jocelyn from The Reading Residence and decide on my Word of the Week #WotW.
This week has been good; lovely and sunny. We spent our week in two different countries! When we were in Wales, the boys of our family were giving our living room a much needed;
Finally our living room has had its make over! I have lived here for 15 years and have always hated the old fashioned tiled fire surround, a blot on the livings rooms landscape. As we rent, we are limited in what we can do ourselves. Thrilled did not even cover it, when our Landlord agreed to take out our coal fire and replace the heating system. Yippee! No more dirty coal dust and ugly fire surround.
So this is what our living room used to look like. Obviously it didn’t always have the paint samples on the wall!.

We now have our new living room.
I re-covered the dining room chairs myself and the fabric was about £8, what a bargain! We still need to finish our photo wall, find a large picture for our chimney breast wall and put some shelves up (Oh and eventually buy some new doors!), but it is almost done and that’s good enough for me.
I love the darker wood floor and Baby loves that she can access all her toys herself, which usually means it ALL ends up on the floor, but at least she is having fun!
It is amazing what difference some paint and wall paper makes, this room has gone from zero to hero in my eyes. I really didn’t like this room and it wasn’t our style, but I now love it and am happy to spend time in here. It is so much more relaxing! It is quite a dark room (thanks to the 30+ year old Christmas tree that Mr Hubby planted at the bottom of the garden), so I just wanted a splash of colour and otherwise it had to be quite light. We used a slightly textured linear white wallpaper and then some bright paper on the chimney wall.
We paid for all of our makeover ourselves. Here is where everything is from;
Feature wall paper – Habitat from Homebase
Chair cover fabric – Aberkan
Light shades – Ikea
Vase – Dunelm Mill £1.99! Pink one came with a bouquet
Curtains Dunelm Mill £19.99 (the only bit I am not keen on. When they are hanging they are thinner, lighter and shinier than they looked in the packet).
Toy boxes – Ikea £2.50 each
Toy Storage – £20 car boot sale!

I love it! Loving the retro-bright wall paper, nice to see a splash of colour, pattern and texture 🙂 I’m not a fan of those old fashioned (70s) fire surrounds either, although I do wish we had a fireplace is our current house, that’s what I love about going back home a real fireplace 🙂

Makeover is a nice word especially when you are renting which we are too. I wish we can do something like this. What our flat need is a carpet makeover. But I think that the landlord doesnt care about us here so we have like the baldest carpet. Makes me not want to have visitors in the house =( #wotw
