5 Things; My daughter has taught me

Welcome back to ‘5 Things’ my Sunday series, which covers anything and everything.  This week I am sharing

things my daughter has taught me

5 Things: My daughter has taught me

  • Be grateful for the little things – You could say that children are easily pleased.  I think we could learn a lot from their simple joy.  As we get older and we strive for more and more, it become harder to please us.  Recapturing this child-like joy is quite refreshing.
  • Every day can be a fresh start – Children don’t hold grudges, they wake up with a clean slate every day and don’t let squabbles with friends spill over to another day.  I have spent so much time being upset by the actions of others and think I would have been much better off drawing a line under the situation and moving on.
  • Laugh every day – Children laugh at the smallest, silliest things and are so free with their emotions.  While I don’t want to emulate my daughter epic tantrums, I have learned to take the time to laugh more and open myself up to being silly, without fear of what others would think.
  • Notice the small things – The world is so exciting for children and over time we adults become a little dulled to its magic. Again, it seems to takes more to impress us and we notice less and less about the world around us.  There is such pleasure in noticing the detail.

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” – Robert Brault

  • To dream big – If you ask children what they want to be when they grow up, it is rarely give you a mainstream job as their answer.  No, they always want to be an astronaut or a pirate, something from their imagination.  They don’t worry about how they will achieve it, they just know they want to enough.  Children don’t put limits on themselves, they have total and utter self believe.  While realism has to come into play at some point for adults, we could still learn a lot from their wonderful confidence in their own abilities.

“Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.” Mary Kay Ash

  1. Gorgeous, and well worth remembering. Hmm, today the baby taught me that a break from the routine isn’t the end of the world 🙂

  2. I love the fact that ‘every day can be a fresh start’ and totally agree. We can have terrible days followed by wonderful ones, thankfully more good than bad!

  3. Such a lovely post – I agree, we need to take the opportunity to learn from our children it’s amazingly refreshing what they teach us x #sundaystars

  4. So very sweet. I agree on every day is a new day, I must learn to start afresh and not let stupid things get lodged in my brain.

  5. Very lovely post 🙂 It’s amazing what we learn from our little ones!
I’m an Early Years Practitioner when I’m not loving life on mat leave, and I cant believe how judgmental I had been towards other parents before I had Bean! I never thought I was at the time, in fact I thought I was really understanding of the parents I worked with.
But once I became a mother, I became really paranoid that people would think I’m a bad mum if I used the TV to distract my baby or didn’t change her dirty nappy straight away!
My daughter has taught me that, with all the best intentions, you can’t get everything right all the time! As long as she’s happy and thriving, that’s all that matters 🙂
    Xxx

  6. Aw this is so cute and so so true, thanks for reminding me of this on a day when my two are being little monkey’s! 😉 x

  7. Oh this is lovely and all so true!! I love seeing the world through my girls’ eyes, they have such an easy, clear view on everything. Nothing’s completed and everything’s amazing! Thanks for linking up to #SundayStars xx
