5 Things; I will change about myself this year

Welcome to my new series, ‘5 Things’, which will be a nice easy Sunday read.  I will kick the series off with;

5 things

I will change about myself this year

  • I will be more confident

I am beginning to realise more and more, that you receive what you project.  I truly believe that you have to fake it ’til you make it, but although this is the advice I would give, I don’t act on it.  My lack of confidence is most probably all tied up in weight issues, but whatever the root cause, I would like to change.  To feel confident, worthy and limit my self doubt.  I plan to find some exercises to help me in this goal and have been sent a course on ‘instant confidence’ to review, so hopefully this will also have an impact.  You only get one life, we better make the most of it.

  • I will be happier

posted earlier in the week about my quest to ‘find my happy’.  I know this sounds a little bit like hippy nonsense, but I want to feel as happy as I know I should, which isn’t always the case.  I need to make time for me (however, short) and indulge myself in things I enjoy occasionally.

  • I will stop being apologetic about myself and my achievements.

I think it is probably a terribly British trait, but I feel awkward and apologetic if anyone gives me a compliment.  I try to laugh it off, while obviously being very grateful someone was kind to me.  I feel compelled to justify why their compliment is not believed by me.  If someone says I look great, I need to say something, to show them I don’t believe it and am not big headed.  So this year I am going to try to embrace the things I have achieved and accept compliments, without trying to negate them.

  • I will be a more mindful mummy

I know I am not a bad mummy.  However, I do know that I could be better.  I could learn tactics for coping with Baby’s questionable behaviour, rather than shouting.  I want to be the perfect mum, don’t we all, but I will settle for being the best mum I can be.  I have just downloaded the ‘Hands Free Mama’ and hope to have time to read it soon.  I am also going to seek help about an issue we have changing Baby’s nappy and getting her dressed in the morning.  Hopefully this will lead to a reduction in stress for all of us.

  • I will be a better wife

My husband is a saint.  He works full time to support us and because I am looking after Baby and trying to write a full time blog as well, he ends up doing a lot of the household tasks.  He never moans and doesn’t mind when I work every single night on my blog.  I want to show him that I am so grateful for his unwavering support and I could do this by giving him some precious time. Finding baby friendly hotels and having regular family trips would help us to make the most of our special family time.

Do you plan to make any changes this year?  What would be top of your list to change or improve on?

  1. Ah love you missy. Great list, I can relate to all of this. But go careful on yourself, be kind to you as you are amazing. Don’t be hard on yourself. It’s so easy to put pressure on yourself, but also remember the amazing things you already do. Can’t wait to see you! Mwah xxxxx

Oh thank you huni. I can be a bit hard on myself, but I so want to be the best version of me I can be. So excited to see and your girls xxxx

  2. I can relate to every single one of these. I so need to be more confident and I also think it’s down to not being happy with my weight as I have gained 4 stones since having Jacob. I am sure that you already are an amazing mum to baby as it is clear how much you adore her . Good luck with making your changes and I hope they result in you feeling happier and more confident this year xx

Oh huni thank you so much for your lovely comment, that really touched me. Let’s make 2015 the year we lose weight and feel happier with ourselves xx

  3. I really love this idea Aby.
At school a teacher told me if you ever receive a compliment, look the person in the eyes and say ‘Thank you’, I try to remember this but usually fail. I will have to look up that hands free mama book, my issue is Oliver’s eating and I beat myself up about it alot!
    xx

  4. Good luck with these. They all seem like great things to aim for but I’m sure you’re little one and partner would already say you were the best at these 🙂

  5. I think how you see yourself and how others do must be a long way apart. confidence sounds the key, you are fab, appreciate all you do and what a lovely life you are giving Baby xx

  6. I can relate to all of these (except maybe the achievements one… as I don’t think I’ve really achieved anything compliment worthy in a long time!). I started a ‘Finding my happy’ blog series at the beginning of the year and I’m hoping that will make a big difference.

Good luck with your goals. 🙂

  8. I think everyone feels like this too, at times, however its totally normal with everything you have going on! I can relate too. I am trying so hard to be happier this year – doesn’t sounds too exciting but I am trying to enjoy my days more rather than moaning and complaining. Love the list. Jess x
