Cold outside: How to keep your child entertained

Hello Winter! There are lots of wonderful things about the cold season, the crisp walks with hats and gloves, seeing all the leaves turn to every shade of orange then gracefully fall to the ground and let’s not forget the lead up to Christmas, everyone’s in such high spirits with mulled wine and hot chocolate flowing.

Dreamy isn’t it? Although, nothing is ever perfect, is it? With the good comes the bad and in winters case it brings the extreme cold, long dark days and lots and lots of rain. I expect you’re starting to panic about how you will keep your sanity when you’re stuck inside facing toddler tantrums and unexpected outbursts of household destruction. Don’t worry, when you have kids this is normal.

Time to embrace the cold and keep the festive morale flowing over Winter. It can be nerve-wracking getting out of the house, not just the fuss of getting everyone ready to go and into the car but driving in this period can be daunting. You need to be extra cautious of hazards such as black ice, darker days make it more difficult to see and all the extra traffic on the road which can cause longer journeys that often encourage our children to become agitated. If you’re in the market for travel essentials to help get you through, the selection of Britax products at Kiddies Kingdom offer a great range of support for parents, with a huge variety of car seats and essentials to choose from, each carefully designed to ensure your child is comfortable, safe and happy on your travels this winter.

Here, we’ve put together some additional tips to keep you and your little ones entertained this year;

Drive-In Cinema

Switch up movie night and go to a drive-in cinema, enjoy the comforts of your own car, take a blanket and turn the heating on. It’s a true American style outdoor experience to be enjoyed all year round, just be sure to grab some treats on the way and watch their faces light up as the movie starts.

Homemade Hot Chocolate

This is a real treat for chocolate lovers! Scrap the cocoa powder and get busy in the kitchen. Melt milk chocolate by adding it to warm milk, the kids will enjoy the process of making the drink and the sweet treat at the end will be their favourite part of the day. Don’t forget to top with whipped cream and marshmallows.

Talent Show

Let your child’s imagination run wild with a talent show, watch them jump into character and leave their natural persona behind. Will they be a mysterious magician, their favourite popstar or a dancer performing in front of thousands of people? It’s exciting to see what they choose and of course, very entertaining to watch.

Garden Centre

Jump in the car and take a trip to your local garden centre. Especially at this time of the year, the Christmas decorations are out in full force with lots of beautiful trees and lights on display. If they have a Santa’s grotto your children would love to pay him a visit.

Pantomime

Pantomimes are fantastic, especially in the Christmas and new year period. They’re designed for family entertainment, so you’re bound to have a good time. Pantomimes are usually re-worked popular children’s stories, with lots of audience interaction, so I’m sure you and your kids will love it.
