Creative Writing with NCC Home Learning

I have always loved to learn and have completed many courses in the past in addition to my A levels and Psychology degree.

Over recent years my ability to take on these courses has diminished.  There is always something more important to spend our cash on, namely Baby!  However, my thirst for knowledge is still there, so when I was approached by NCC Home Learning who asked if I would like to review one of their home learning courses, I was thrilled.

Home learning is the best option for me, and probably many other busy parents too; the thought of toddling off to night school at the end of a busy day, does not appeal to me at all.  Home learning means I can fit it in around my other responsibilities and go at my own pace.

There are so many courses to choose from, but after lengthy consideration I decided to enrol on the Creative Writing course.  As a blogger I was drawn to this course as I thought it could only be of benefit to my blog.

The modules are;

Module 1  – Helps you explore the reasons why you write and will help you look at your writing and experiences of writing.  The idea is to explore your motivation and identify your aims for the course.  You will use this exploration to create a written piece that will give your tutor an idea of who you are and what sort of writer you are.

Module 2  – Explores different types of texts and genres.  Which helps you to make choices about your own writing.

Module 3  – Starting to write. Tips on how to start, how to choose what to write and generate ideas for writing. Also covering writing style, how to create characters and write dialogue.

Modules 4 to 11  – Each module looks at a different form of writing; covering poetry, short stories, longer texts, novels, life writing, non-fiction, writing for younger readers and scriptwriting.

Module 12 – Focusing on the editorial process, how you can edit your own writing and what you can learn from editing and feedback.

Module 13 – How you can work towards being published.

Module 14  – What does it mean to be a writer and how you can continue your development after the course has finished.

This Creative Writing Diploma includes the registration fee, certification fee and full tutor support.  The course is £255 and you can pay in instalments if that suits you better.  There is also a price match guarantee.

I have completed the first module so far and passed. The tutor’s feedback was that I am a very honest writer and she thought this would stand me in good stead.  I also used my assignment as a blog post, which you can read here.
