A delight for Christmas – Ballerina

Last Sunday we were invited the the screening of the new Disney film, Ballerina. Due to be released in cinemas on 19th December, so perfect timing for festive family viewing.

Ballerina

Ava loves Ballet and so she was very excited to get the chance to see the film before general released. We arrived at the Vue cinema in Leicester Square and were greeted by a glittery crafting table and photography area. Some wonderful dancers from Royal Academy of Dance entertained us and there was even chance for the kids to join in.

As Ava is a face painting obsessive, this was our first stop. When she was suitably sparkly we had a wander round. She watched the dancers in awe, before doing a little spot of Christmas crafting.

The light in the cinema was very yellow, so you will have to forgive me as these images aren’t the best quality.

As a fan of a tutu and twirling, we obviously had to spent quite some time doing just that.

I was so proud of her going to get her photo taken in front of the green screen. It wasn’t that long ago she wouldn’t have liked her photo being taken by anyone other than me. So, maybe she wasn’t super confident, but she did strike a pose!

The screenplay by Summer Warin, Carol Noble and Laurent Zeitoun is brought to life in this 3d animation, Ballerina. Set in the late 1800s, an orphan girl Félicie dreams of becoming a ballerina. She lacks any formal training, but she has such a passion for dance. Together with her best friend Victor, they run away from the orphanage in rural Brittany and go to Paris. Félicie assumes the identity of a spoiled girl and becomes a dance student at the Paris Opera. A mysterious caretaker at the opera, Odette, takes her under her wing and gives her some to stay. As the story progresses Odette begins to train Félicie and after a few bumps in the road her dreams come true.

We really enjoyed this film, it was a perfect mix of action and sentiment.

After the screening we went for lunch, Ava had her favourite, a hotdog.

A stunning bracelet was gifted to every child attending the screening. Ava wanted to sleep in hers and we had to take it into nursery the next day to show her teachers.

Ava spent the whole evening practicing her ballet moves when we got home!

Disclosure: We received free admission to the screening in return for an honest review.

  1. Oh how sweet, Aspen was ballet obsessed when she was tiny, she would dress up and dance and dance. She became an amazing dancer and ballet really suited her as she was very disciplined, she never liked freestyle dancing, she wanted to be told exactly what to do (funny kid she loves rules). She was actually told by judges that she is a natural and will go far, and then she gave up. She decided she didn’t want to dance anymore at 11 years old. We continued for 6 months but she was unhappy, so I let her stop. She is now passionate about art. It was hard to see her give up dancing, watching her dance was so beautiful and moving, but she has to be happy, that is all we really want as parents isn’t it. Sorry for blabbing on oops!
