I Am Me

Recently I saw a friend who I haven’t seen for months (since before Baby was born).  He asked if I was still teaching and when I said that I wasn’t doing much, he said “So you’re just being a mum”.  I struggle with this as I know there are more aspects to my personality than soley a ‘mum’, but at the moment a mum is all I feel like…. So when I spotted this great post/linky by the lovely Rachel, over at her blog Three Years & Home.  I thought it would be cathartic to take part in.  Here goes!

I am me

I am: Wife, Mummy, Friend, Daughter, Aunt, Teacher, Sister in Law, Sister.

I am sometimes: Smiley, Emotional, Funny, Tired, A Worrier, Sarcastic, Over sensitive, Messy, Too honest,  Stressed, Witty, Cold (temperature wise!),

I am always: On time, Supportive, Protective, Loyal, Organised, Thoughtful.

I like: Ice Cream, Tea, Reality TV, Baking, Soaps, Chinese food (Spring rolls yum!), Listening to the rain hammering when I am cosy inside, Cuddles, Reading, Sleep (can vaguely remember what is it like), Rom Coms, A new haircut, Pepsi Max (although very bad for me), Taking photo’s, Chick lit.

I love: Mr Hubby, Baby, Family, Our dogs,  Watching Baby sleep,  Christmas, How it feels when Baby sleeps on my chest, When Sister-In-Law visits, My blog.

I dislike: Fake People, Tuna, Cooking, Spiders, Double breasted suits, Cling film, People not looking at you when they talk to you, Having a knackered old back, Currently BEING fat; Always FEELING fat, When mushrooms grow in groups (shudder), Horror Films/Books, People who don’t say thank you when you let them past, Orange juice with bits in it, Guests going home after Christmas!.

  1. Thank you so much for joining in. I loved reading more about everyone. One of my favourite things is to be inside warm and cosy when it’s rainy and stormy outside. And your list of dislikes …. I could have written it. 🙂

  2. This is a lovely list, and a great idea to consciously remember all the little things that make us who we are. ‘Just a mum’ indeed!!!

I’m going to second the orange juice with bit in – right up there with cheese with fruit bits in for me!

    Xx

  4. this is a really great idea!
I hate fake people too, drive me nutty!
its so easy to think of our negatives or to just not think about ourselves at all so this is really inspiring!

  5. What a lovely post! No one is ever ‘just’ anything. We’re full of many layers and complexities. It can be good to write it down like this so we can remind ourselves of who we are, as it can be easy to lose our sense of self in the day-to-day stresses. I enjoyed finding out more about you xxx #TheList

  6. To be a mum is glorious and special. And what makes us mums all special individuals is perfectly exemplified in your post.

  7. A lovely idea 🙂 It’s very good sometimes to take a step back and take a good long look at yourself.
I can definitely understand what you feel when people say ‘oh, so you’re a mum’ . I told people I was keeping myself busy, or working on a project. I didn’t want anyone to think I am not exercising my grey cells. On the beginning I didn’t feel comfortable to say I’ve started a blog to try to work towards my dream of making money from writing. Now I tell all and ask for opinions and comments 🙂 Writing the posts and making them public stopped me from feeling precious about my writing.

  9. Love this idea, I will be popping over to join in! I loved so many of your likes and disliked so many of your dislikes including Spiders, People not looking at you when they talk to you (although this can just be lack of confidence), Having a knackered old back, Horror Films/Books, People who don’t say thank you when you let them past. However I do like it when the family goes home after Christmas, 2 days of entertaining means that I just want to return to a bit of us time x

Ah but we only have SIL and BIL come to stay and SIL is one of my closest friends. AND she does all the cooking while she is here and really looks after us, we would love her to be here all the time 🙂 x

  10. Great post/linky idea. Definitely important for all mums to know who they are and have confidence in themselves however much it’s different to how they were pre-children.

I also hate being fat, and double breasted suits. Grrr and thank yous (or not). Do you tut and mutter under your breath too?

  11. Love this post, hate the phrase ‘just a mum’ … just the most important, best, most rewarding, amazing, fun, challenging, life affirming ‘job’ ever! Mums are ace! There is nothing ‘just’ about it.

Mushrooms? …I don’t even want to write the rest of the sentence to save you a shudder 😉
    Awesome pics of you riding.
…& how on earth did you manage to squeeze the word fat in there twice… Confidence, gorgeous lady – THAT is not ‘who’ you are <3
