Let’s Celebrate Being #LikeAGirl

How many times have you heard a negative comment which includes the words ‘like a girl’.

‘You run like a girl’
‘You cry like a girl
‘You throw like a girl

When these comments are made, do they mean you run fast, you throw well?  Do they mean it is o.k to cry? Or do they mean you run slowly, you throw poorly and it is a weakness to cry? Sadly it is the latter.  Being a GIRL is considered by some to be inferior and a weakness. Elements of this are actually deep-seated, even in our modern society.  How sad is that?  Not even just sad, it is utterly heartbreaking.

Our girls are strong, they are feisty, they are brave and they can achieve great things if they believe that they can and if these ingrained misconceptions are eradicated.  Being a girl needs to be revered and celebrated, not seen as a negative IN ANY WAY.

#LikeAGirl

I certainly don’t want my daughter growing up to believe that she is a poorer version of any male.  I want her to aspire to the fabulous female role models that show being a girl is actually pretty damn amazing.  Ladies like these;  who run, swim, fight, earn, achieve as much as any man, sometimes more.

The new Always survey reveals 66 percent of girls feel held back by society, which they believe dictates what they should, and shouldn’t do.

Always, the global leading feminine care brand, has launched  an online video entitled “Always #LikeAGirl Unstoppable.”  It highlights how society’s expectations have a profound impact on girls’ confidence, especially when they enter puberty.  Girls and women of varying ages and backgrounds were asked if they were ever told they should or shouldn’t do something because they’re a girl.  Watch the video to find out their answers.

So let’s spread this campaign. Let’s change the perception of ‘like a girl’ and hopefully in the future the phrase ‘like a girl’ will have nothing but positive connotations.
