Educational apps are not only a great way of keeping your kids entertained while you get some jobs done but they’re also the perfect way of subtly teaching them new skills and knowledge without them even recognizing.
Learning should always be fun, children respond better to positivity when it comes to absorbing knowledge and a brightly coloured, engaging app on the family tablet will do wonders for their development (although it’s a good idea to ensure you have a protective case on your tablet, but if things do get broken you can find iPad screen repair here).
Apps can give younger children a head start when it comes to learning, interactive games, books and stories will hold a child’s attention when reading on their own than a book might as well as helping them progress their speaking, reading and counting skills. You might discover that some schools and playgroups are also introducing the use of mobile devices into the curriculum.
Most homework children receive now will involve a programme or a website on a computer, so encouraging your child to use educational apps will get them accustomed to the concept before they start school.
It’s also a great way of enhancing your child’s spare time, play is important but if you can combine learning with their concept of fun then you’re on to a winner. However, it’s also important you ensure they spend some time being active and social, apps are a great idea but are best for engaging your child while waiting for things or downtime in the mornings at the weekend.
However, some apps can help promote a better lifestyle for kids through their messages. You can download apps that encourage children to brush their teeth, eat their vegetables and head outside to play – toothpaste brand Aquafresh has created a fun app designed to make brushing teeth fun. It gets children to open their mouth wide like a hippo or a lion and even has a catchy teeth brushing song to get them dancing and brushing for the recommended two minutes.
Apps are also great for developing good hand and eye co ordination with challenges that involve tracing lines and tapping the screen at the right time improving their ability to perform basic tasks easily.
Educational apps also allow children to get to grips with technology and devices they will continue to use throughout their lives. Tablets and phones are a huge part of our everyday routines now, so it’s a good idea to have your child engaging with them from an early age so they can work out how to use a touchscreen properly.
Of course, it’s a good idea to download the app yourself and determine if it’s a good fit for your child and does what you expect it to. The Daily Mail reported that there are a lot of apps available that claim to be educational but are in fact so basic they offer no intellectual input. Download the app before letting your child become immersed in it and check that it is relevant and engaging enough to serve its purpose.
Educational apps are a fantastic way of boosting the skill sets and intellect of your little one, allow them some time each day to become accustomed with using them and watch as they grow and develop at a quicker rate.
