The days are long but the years are short
Gretchen Rubin
Parenting can be really tough, we all know that. There are days when you are watching the clock, counting down the minutes until your partner returns home to give you even a few minutes of peace. A few minutes when you are not the one on the receiving end of countless demands and sometimes attitude.

Even on the roughest of days there will be a look, a smile, a giggle, something, that wipes out the stress and makes you count your lucky stars that you are their mamma. Being a mum to a strong willed little girl can test me almost to my limits even on a good day, but I have come to realise that right now, we are in the golden years, we have time; time to spend together with nothing else competing for our attention. Not every day, but some days during the week, we wake up and there is just us and we have the whole day to spend how we wish.

This won’t be the case for much longer; at the moment Baby goes to pre school two mornings a week, but when she is three (only 6 months away) she will start to go for 4 or 5 mornings a week.

Then I will blink and she will be starting school. Their childhood flies by in a whirlwind and I must relish every second that I get to spend with her, without pressure, without deadlines, without friends there to take her attention from me; just me and my girl and the day stretched out in front of us.

Enjoy your time before preschool and then school demand more time from them. I wish we’d had more time together before all that got in the way.

Ah thanks Beth, I am thrilled with the way the blog looks now. Still a little bit of tweaking to do xxx
You’re absolutely right! These years won’t last long. If I could wish for anything as a parent it would be more patience! Being a parent is so amazing and so challenging at the same time.
Too true, I try to enjoy every moment.
Such a lovely post and one that reminds us not only to treasure every passing moment, but one that shows how quickly life can pass us by.xx

Thank you hun, yes you are right xx
You are so right. The time just flies by. I remember when my oldest was a toddler & school seemed like a lifetime away. It came around way too fast! Baby is getting so grown up over the past 6 months that I’ve been following your blog! x
I wholeheartedly agree hun, every single word!
Btw, loving the new layout!

Thanks so much huni x
I really related to this post Aby, in fact I wrote a similar post myself this week thinking about spending quality time with my 2 year old son and how we love those days you mention where you just have the whole day together to do whatever you want. But like you say, time flashes by and he’ll be at school before I know it. Lovely post and photos. #TheOrdinaryMoments Amelia x

Thanks so much hun, we need to make the best of this time x
I like this phrase as it is so true. I do find that years fly but day to day can be very hard at the moment #magicmoments
What a beautiful post Aby and so true, it is so bittersweet how fast the years grow. I know I sound like a silly old mum now but I look back now Mads is at school and wish more than anything I relished these care free days even more than I did, and i thought I did at the time. Blogging, social media, staring at your phone, we love it, it’s our job, it’s our hobby and it is our passion, but deep down we will never get these early years back at all and sometimes I wish I hadn’t stared at my phone or ‘had’ to write an important email when she was with me. I miss it now she is not with me 5 days a week and our routine has changed so much. Such a beautiful post, the years do fly past even though some times the day to day can be hard. xx

Thanks so much huni. I struggle daily with the fact that I have to work when she is here, but I just don’t have enough time otherwise. I need to try and find a way to make it work better, as I just want to be her mum sometimes xx
Beautiful post Aby with great sentiment, Monkey goes to school next Sept and we have started looking at options. It hit me quite hard when I realised our wonderful Fridays are going to have to come to an end. They obviously always were but I hadn’t given it much thought (stupidly). I hope you get to make the most of your time together before Baby starts pre-school full time. You’ve caught some lovely photos here as well. x

Thanks so much. It’s strange how things can hit you isn’t it. x
I adore her boots they are lovely the sort Erin needs to wear. This is a lovely post.
Aw this is lovely Aby, So very true too. oOf course parenting is challenging at times more to do with us mums then will our children but those are the times that remind us when it is good we have got to savour it all up. Love this. So important to always remember this. x

Thank you huni, we need to make the most of everything we can, x
What a lovely way of looking at it. They tell you that children grow up quickly but it’s not until you have one you realise how quickly they change… And now I have 2 the time is speeding away even faster
Lovely post and all so true too! As I look around me tonight my house actually looks like its been raided. The partner was working late and came home actually thinking we’d be burgled! {I had to laugh!}. My first words to him? “We have a toddler!”. Its a good job they’re cute, right? xx

Thanks so much, it is scary how quickly it whizzes by x
Time really does fly by so quickly. My boys are quickly growing up and although sometimes I wish the days were over so I can sleep, I know I have to cherish these moments with my boys. They don’t last very long!
It is insane how quickly time flies but we have to learn to make the best of it and treasure the memories that we have with our children before the grow up too quickly.
Nice post, Aby. It makes me think about the childhood of my kids. If I could stop the time and enjoy it…)))
So true. I keep reminding myself of that quote. My son is four months old and when we have a particularly rough day and I count down the hours until my partner comes home from work, I remind myself that even though the day feels like it’ll go on forever, he’s growing so quickly!
I think you’ve captured this so well. I also have a strong-willed boy at the same age! I know how exhausting it can be but I also know these days won’t last forever so have come to appreciate them so much (even the days with tantrums!) and they grow up way too quickly. Baby is looking like a proper little girl now! xx
Ahhhh huni, you know this is a subject just so close to my heart. This is so beautiful, this time is so precious, I try and remind myself of that often. It is hard to bear when they are not your baby anymore and become independent from you. She will always be your baby, of course, just in a different way and so you are right to make the most of her in this very moment. Beautiful words and gorgeous pictures xxx
Lovely, lovely post darling and so, so true. Elsie is now at nursery two days a week, goes to her Nana or Grandma for one other day which means we have two days a week – bar weekends – to enjoy together. Like Baby, Elsie is so spirited which often makes life, well a bit tricky (!), at times but I’m desperately trying to hold on to our days and enjoy them as much as I can. They do grow up so quickly. Elsie will start school in September (and she’ll only have just turned 4) so you’re absolutely right, these are the golden days, even if they don’t always feel like them 😉 xxxx
This is a beautiful post and so, so true. Moments to treasure. Enjoy.
So beautiful and so true. I love these photos of baby – the sunshine is just perfect. Love you xxxxx
