The Days Are Long But The Years Are Short

The days are long but the years are short

Gretchen Rubin

Parenting can be really tough, we all know that.  There are days when you are watching the clock, counting down the minutes until your partner returns home to give you even a few minutes of peace.  A few minutes when you are not the one on the receiving end of countless demands and sometimes attitude.

Even on the roughest of days there will be a look, a smile, a giggle, something, that wipes out the stress and makes you count your lucky stars that you are their mamma.  Being a mum to a strong willed little girl can test me almost to my limits even on a good day, but I have come to realise that right now, we are in the golden years, we have time; time to spend together with nothing else competing for our attention.  Not every day, but some days during the week, we wake up and there is just us and we have the whole day to spend how we wish.

This won’t be the case for much longer; at the moment Baby goes to pre school two mornings a week, but when she is three (only 6 months away) she will start to go for 4 or 5 mornings a week.

Then I will blink and she will be starting school.  Their childhood flies by in a whirlwind and I must relish every second that I get to spend with her, without pressure, without deadlines, without friends there to take her attention from me;  just me and my girl and the day stretched out in front of us.
