I am linking up again with Crazy With Twins Wednesday Words feature. This feature give’s us license to find a quote, lyric, poem, whatever we fancy that we identify with or that helps to tell our story..
Do you compare? Do you look at other people and think they are doing better than you? A better mum, a better wife? I am grateful for my life, so very grateful for my husband and my beautiful baby, but I still can’t help comparing. Maybe if I had been more focused on my career, rather than doing jobs that made me happy or gave me time to go and ride my horse. Maybe then we would be more financially stable and be able to afford a beautiful house. Maybe we could buy one, rather than rent. We would have something to leave Baby. I see glimpses of people’s lives and they seem more successful, better off, bigger houses, more grown up.
Other mums seem to glide around in a haze of perfection, put together, in control. Dinner ready for hubby and a clean house. I am lucky if I am not covered in baby food by the time Mr Hubby gets home. I am grateful we have somewhere to live, some people don’t. I long for the house to reflect us and be somewhere that I feel comfortable asking people round to, but we haven’t and I don’t. I feel embarrassed of our house, it seems so unfinished, it’s not glossy. Baby doesn’t have a playroom filled with beautiful toys. She has a pile of toys in the living room.
I don’t compare and feel jealous. I compare and feel as if I have failed. If I had done more, been better, then maybe we would have the glossy house, Mr Hubby may not have to do the housework when he gets in from work, we would act like proper grown ups, we would eat at the table, rather than on our knees. I am a wife, a mum, a blogger, a business owner, never getting anything achieved, as being a mum takes up nearly all of my reserves. Then the lists grow longer and the stress increases. Then the comparisons start all over again. If others can do it why can’t I?
How do the others keep all the plates spinning?
