Word of the week #7

Friday means it’s time to link up with Jocelyn from The Reading Residence for Word of the week #WOTW.

CHANGE

Before I start this is not a woe is me post.  Some people think that all overweight people have to do to lose weight is to eat less & exercise more.  That’s right, we all know that, but sometimes there are factors that make this harder.

This week I have decided something has to change.  I have always struggled with my weight.  However, as I used to be a horse rider, I was relatively fit even when carrying a bit too much weight.  I have dieted for the majority of the last 18 years and am now the heaviest I have ever been.  I put on 4 stone during my pregnancy.  This was the result of the Doctor telling me not to diet (I diet in quite a hardcore way usually) and also I also used the time as a break from dieting, a break that I did desperately need.  In addition being on crutches for the last 3 months of my pregnancy meant the pounds piled on.

Anyway…  post pregnancy I am left with a damaged pelvis (to add to my already knackered back).  This is not a sob story, it just means that running and other high impact exercises are out of the question (for the moment anyway).  I find walking painful, if I go too far and am on quite a few painkillers every day.  This brings me to my ‘Word of the Week’, something has to change.  I do not want this to be my body forever.  As I have said before I do not want Baby to have a fat mum.  I want to take her swimming.  I want to feel like me again.  I don’t want to be on a diet constantly.

In the past, I have had to barely eat and hit the gym everyday to shift the weight.  I have had success on various diets (up to 3.5 stone, but nothing that is ever maintained.  Which brings me to the realisation that I need help.  So instead of just trying another diet, which never solves the problem, I am going to ask my Doctor for help.  She has always been very supportive, so hopefully she will be able to help me.  Whether it is therapy to change my thought processes or something else, I have no idea.  My will power is normally very good and if I decide to diet then I can stick to it, fasting, calorie counting, whatever is called for.  However, since starting my PND medication I feel awful if I don’t eat and I find the night-time feeds a bit of a struggle if I have been fasting.  So a new approach is needed.

I hope this change will mean that by the time Baby is old enough to take notice of things,  ‘diet’ will not be a word used in this house.

Wish me luck!
