Word of the week #7

Friday means it’s time to link up with Jocelyn from The Reading Residence for Word of the week #WOTW.

CHANGE

Before I start this is not a woe is me post.  Some people think that all overweight people have to do to lose weight is to eat less & exercise more.  That’s right, we all know that, but sometimes there are factors that make this harder.

This week I have decided something has to change.  I have always struggled with my weight.  However, as I used to be a horse rider, I was relatively fit even when carrying a bit too much weight.  I have dieted for the majority of the last 18 years and am now the heaviest I have ever been.  I put on 4 stone during my pregnancy.  This was the result of the Doctor telling me not to diet (I diet in quite a hardcore way usually) and also I also used the time as a break from dieting, a break that I did desperately need.  In addition being on crutches for the last 3 months of my pregnancy meant the pounds piled on.

Anyway…  post pregnancy I am left with a damaged pelvis (to add to my already knackered back).  This is not a sob story, it just means that running and other high impact exercises are out of the question (for the moment anyway).  I find walking painful, if I go too far and am on quite a few painkillers every day.  This brings me to my ‘Word of the Week’, something has to change.  I do not want this to be my body forever.  As I have said before I do not want Baby to have a fat mum.  I want to take her swimming.  I want to feel like me again.  I don’t want to be on a diet constantly.

In the past, I have had to barely eat and hit the gym everyday to shift the weight.  I have had success on various diets (up to 3.5 stone, but nothing that is ever maintained.  Which brings me to the realisation that I need help.  So instead of just trying another diet, which never solves the problem, I am going to ask my Doctor for help.  She has always been very supportive, so hopefully she will be able to help me.  Whether it is therapy to change my thought processes or something else, I have no idea.  My will power is normally very good and if I decide to diet then I can stick to it, fasting, calorie counting, whatever is called for.  However, since starting my PND medication I feel awful if I don’t eat and I find the night-time feeds a bit of a struggle if I have been fasting.  So a new approach is needed.

I hope this change will mean that by the time Baby is old enough to take notice of things,  ‘diet’ will not be a word used in this house.

Wish me luck!

  1. Sometimes just acknowledging stuff helps changes to happen. I have a battle with my weight too. Hoping to take control a bit next week. Good Luck and well done on dealing with a lot on your plate (no pun intended but happened)

Thanks and good luck to you too, We can do this! Although I’m not sure what the answer is for me as without exercise I would have to eat nothing to lose but we will see what they say x

  2. Best of luck and well done you for being strong and making a decision to make a change and ask for help. I feel for you with your pelvic problems, I was on crutches by the end of my pregnancy too but was lucky enough that I don’t have too much pain anymore. I really hope all goes well for you and hope the dr can help you get to where you want to be! #wotw

It is such a pain as I just want to get on with things and feel like my old self. I have arthritis and 3 prolapsed discs too, so the pelvis going wrong too is a bit of a pain (no pun intended! ) Thanks for your well wishes x

      1. Oh my goodness, as if one of those things on it’s own wasn’t bad enough! I can totally relate to wanting to feel like yourself again! I look forward to hearing about your positive progress 🙂 xx

  3. Same word of the week as me 😀 one of my points is also very very similar to yours but I’m keeping it a little under wraps for now cause I’ve had big massive blog-led weight loss attempts before and failed. I hope you achieve everything you want and your doctor is helpful 😀

  5. Really good luck honey – that is really tough for you especially with PND too. I hope the doctor can find a workable solution for you – at least you have leaped the first hurdle by recognising that something new and sustainable is called for. X #WotW

  6. Good luck, I think deciding you need to sort things out is half the battle. I have accepted that healthy eating is for life and that if I don’t stick to it I’ll put weight back on. Having back and pelvis problem must be a right pain for you, hopefully your Doctor can help.

Yes definitely. I need to figure out how to lose it without being able to do much exercise, that’s the tricky part, but hopefully clinic will help x

  7. I totally sympathise- I still need to lose another stone of baby weight, and Syd is two and a half! Sometimes it just needs you to be in the right frame of mind- when I have had success in any life change in the past, it has always been because I am ready to make the change rather than just feeling like I should- if that makes sense! As soon as the right frame of mind comes along I seem to be able to stick to things- For me, I am waiting for the sun to shine again, I find it much easier to stick to diets, and get plenty of exercise out in the fresh air in summer time!

  8. Well done you on realising you want to change. I have the same issues about not being able to do anything high impact due to having had arthritis since the age of 10 and since having baby number 3 I haven’t been able to get back to being myself again. I look forward to hearing how you get on and wish you all the best with it. x

  10. I’m sure you will do it, you sound very determined. Huge sympathies about your pelvis. It’s still early days, I found quite a bit suddenly shifted with each of my 3 about a year post birth. But this is something I need to get onto too, my youngest is 3.5 now & definitely the last, so there’s no excuse! Good luck with it.

  11. Massively good luck on making the changes you need! You do indeed sound determined to succeed, with all the best motivation. Things will hopefully heal and you will find movements and a different variety of exercise possible. All the best x

  12. It sounds like you’ve had a lot to deal with so try to be gentle on yourself. I’m wishing you every chance to make the changes that you need. I find myself reflecting so much since I have had children and it can be very hard to make changes. I hope your doctor is able to help you make a positive and long lasting difference, you can do it!
