And She’s Off!

One of the most amazing things about being a parent, for me, is how rapidly your child develops.  There are some periods of time when it seems mental and physical development holds no bounds, which can sometimes take you by surprise.  A couple of months ago Baby had never tried to ride a scooter.  She was given one for her birthday at the end of March and for the first few weeks she just liked to push it around and hang things off the handle bars; usually one of her many handbags!  When I tried to place her on it, she would pull up her landing gear and sit on it astride.

Then all of a sudden, a few weeks ago, she was happy standing and we would scoot her up and down the living room, relishing in the resulting beam on her face.  More recently she started to scoot herself!  A couple of weekends ago we took her outside for the first time to ‘scoot’; a momentous day my friends!

Scooter

I love the concentration on her little face, she is such a determined little lady…. I can’t imagine where she got that from..

I just love how cute she looks!

She had such a wonderful time, even though her scooting style was a little unorthodox at times.

It is such a bittersweet feeling, watching your little baby being so independent.  You seem to spend half of your time wishing they would advance in certain things and the other half wanting to freeze time, to make sure you squeeze out every possible memory.

We even tried her with her little bike, but her legs weren’t quite long enough.  She wasn’t that happy with that fact.

Scooting

Along with those bittersweet feelings, are the feeling of immense pride watching your beautiful daughter scoot down the road.

  1. Oh my gosh that photo where the scooter fell over is just the cutest pic ever! She is a darling!

  2. Aww this is so lovely and how fun are those tiny little scooters! I’m in two minds whether to get Annabelle a scooter this Christmas {sorry for even mentioning that word in may!!!} or a push bike! #Magicmoments x

  3. Ooo yay well done baby! Zach has had a scooter for a while now but is only just getting confident on it – it may be soon time to take him outside like this and see how he gets on. They are such big moments aren’t they?! #magicmoments

  4. That’s really odd! We’ve just had exactly the same milestone with the boys!! We were at a friend’s house a couple of week’s ago and they had a little scooter. Bertie is amazing at it! He glides along like a little pro! Cosmo is a little more nervous but still really enjoys it.

I’ve literally just been looking at second hand ones on Ebay! The Microscooters are SO expensive. Fine if you have one child — or lots of spare cash! — but super expensive when you’re having to buy two at a time and money is tight.

Lovely to see your Baby enjoying the same kind of ‘new skills’ as The Twinkles! 🙂

  5. Oh bless her heart Aby, there will be no stopping her now. I find it funny that Baby is a couple of months younger than LL but because LL is my second I treat her like so much more a baby than I did with Mads at her age- I wouldn’t have even considered getting her a scooter yet even though she is obviously more than capable! x

I don’t think we would have either but she was sent it and like you say they are more capable than you think! x

  6. Brilliant Baby. Love that face on photo – with all the concentration and pride. Brilliant helmet too – I never think of putting N’s helmet on him for scooting.

So funny with the bike. N was the same. Had a balance bike age 2, but then his legs weren’t long enough for another 3 months which turned out well because by that time the weather was better.

  7. Ah, brilliant! It’s lovely when they get the hang of something like this isn’t it, they look so pleased with themselves 🙂 Great fun to watch. Love the photos, she does look very determined x

  8. Aww bless her. Well done Baby. My little ones love scooting around. Eden tries but she’s just too small. Judah makes my heart swell when he’s scooting off ahead of me, lovely to see them have a taste of freedom xxx #ordinarymoments

  9. Well done baby, she is doing so well there and concentration so hard, you can see it in her face. Popping by from #MagicMoments but this would make a lovely Country Kids post too if you fancy joining me.

  10. Wow, she is soooo grown up, Aby! i love what you’ve said here, really hits the nail on the head for me as half the time I can’t wait to see what Reuben does next (especially if it involves sleeping through the night!!) but then when it does happen I get that flash of, like you say, wanting to freeze time! Lovely stuff xxx
