For me, an exciting part of motherhood is watching your child learn to talk. The babbled sounds gradually becoming more recognisable words, is such a wonderful feeling. Needless to say, it also helps communication a great deal! Baby is 21 months old and has about 40 words, some of which are clearer than others. She has started to link two words together, usually ‘Hi Dada’ and seems to learn a new word every other day now.
Although it will be such a wonderful feeling to be able to have a proper conversation with her, I do love the baby talk. Some of the words are just so cute! I have captured some of my favourites, as I want to remember this stage forever.

You are so right to enjoy this stage while you can. We are just a little way ahead of you with my eldest, who is 31 months and the chatter is relentless, all in perfectly formed sentences. The cute little phrases are going to seem like a distant memory for you next year 😉

I know, so I thought I would capture some of them while I can 🙂 x
Awww I feel the same way. The baby talk is such a lovely stage. It’s like you have your own special language…you know most of the time what they mean but no one else does!! I love the way a word develops from certain sounds it’s so amazing to witness!!

It is amazing 🙂 x
I wish I’d done this for my two but never actually got around to it. Lovely things to capture aren’t they, these little sounds and ‘chats’.

I need to film more, I always photograph but video is such a great way to archive things x
So sweet Aby, and clever baby for her 40 words! We are so so lucky to be able to capture our kids milestones and moments on film whenever we want… Instead of thank you cards for Xmas pressies this year I made a thank you video with my girls and emailed it out. Everyone loved it 🙂

Gorgeous, gorgeous stage. Max is 21 months too, and has started saying so much lately, they really do repeat everything! #magicmoments

Ah thank you huni. I have no frame of reference so do not know how many words is normal at which age. xx
Aw, lovely moments. Hearing children learn to talk is one of the best things about watching them grow up. So cute! x

Ah sounds adorable x
Such an adorable time – I took note of some of mines cutest baby talk words for posterity – like Syd calling Giraffes ‘Talls’ – so cute!
Author
Aww that is so cute. I might teach Baby that they are called talls! x
‘Apple’ is my favourite! The talking stage was my favourite with both of mine, it changes your relationship massively, suddenly things became easier with the kids, they could express themselves and tell me if they were in pain or needed something.
Author
I love it! I keep asking her to say Thank you, apple and mama! ha ha! poor child xxx
Oh that’s so sweet! It is so nice to capture these precious moments they go so fast! xx
Author
Thank you huni xx
Such a lovely stage to enjoy, the words and phrases will come tumbling out from here on and you will be plagued with “but why” and “no”
Author
We have a lot of ‘no’ at the moment! 🙂 x
I really wish I’d captured more on film, it really is such a wonderful time.

I think you are right Jen x
So cute! 40 words looks like a lot to me, Adam is 19 months old and doesn’t really talk apart from imitating animal sounds. To be fair, we are multilingual household, and I guess it’s a bit confusing to him, but I just can’t wait for him to speak!
Author
We only have Baby so I have no previous experience to know what is the ‘normal’ amount. I am sure Adam will start coming out with things soon x
So cute, once they start they never stop the words just keep on coming don’t they. Both my son and daughter still make up words and have funny ways of saying things and I love it 🙂 #magicmoments
Author
Thanks, ah it is lovely when they have their own little ways x
Oh that is adorable. What a lot of words Baby is able to say now and her saying ‘Mama’ is just the cutest 🙂
Author
Thank you huni! I have no idea is 40 is lots or few for her age. Mama is my personal favourite 🙂 x
Awww what a lovely post, I wish I had more videos of mine when they were younger 🙂
Author
Thank you huni. I need to do more of them x
Awww! Enjoy every moment.
Author
Thanks huni, I will x
So cute when they start saying words that you can recognise

They learn so much all of a sudden x
This is too cute! My boy was a bit of a late talker but he doesn’t shut up now! Ha ha! xxx
Author
Thanks huni xxx
Aw her little voice is so cute! She is doing so well with her words Aby, LL seems so much younger than Baby and she is nearly two now. I definitely think it’s a case of second child syndrome, as Mads was stringing sentences together by this point. They are all so different. xx
Author
Thanks huni, I love it, she says bye/hi like she is from South America, I think it is too much Sheriff Callie…. ooops! xx
My middle boy is two and says the cutest things – crumpets are crumpets and I find myself saying it too!!
Author
I never want her to say thank you the proper way, so cute x
Baby’s little face is so gorgeous! sorry if i tell you that a bit too much! sooo cute. Love the way she says Lulu!
Olivia did not walk until she was 19 months but started talking really early. So at 2.5 she is good to answer the phone for me!
Precious memories x
Author
I don’t think I would every get bored of anyone saying she is gorgeous! Thanks huni. Clever Olivia 🙂 x
Aawww such a cutie! You will never believe at 27 months old I said to mummy last week ‘Bloody hell will you get off your phone!’ Much to mummy’s horror (and stifled giggles!) Honestly. That is what I came out with :O
Author
Ha ha! Priceless! x
Sebby is starting to talk now too and I find it amusing that we can all understand him but strangers can’t – its funny what you get used to it isnt it
Author
Ah he is so cute x
