Bedtime Bottles

There are moments in parenthood when you catch yourself wondering how much longer you have; how much longer before this moment passes forever.  For me, one such moment is Baby’s bedtime bottle.  We have a little routine, which we stick to 99% of the time. Mr Hubby gets in from work and gives Baby her dinner, then he gets her room ready, while I do any urgent work that’s cropped up during the day.  Then when it is bedtime, Mr Hubby kisses and cuddles Baby at the bottom of the stairs and I carry her up to get her ready for bed, waving to Mr Hubby at the top of the stairs. Mr Hubby then goes to make our dinner, while I put Baby to bed.

However crazy and hectic the day has been; however feisty or even naughty Baby has been, it is all wiped away by the calm that washes over me as I sit in the dark on the rocking chair, with Baby lying against me drinking her bedtime bottle.  These special moments that we won’t experience forever.  There will come a time when she doesn’t need to lie on me, when she doesn’t need to be cuddled to sleep, when a bottle is no longer a source of comfort. When our little Baby, is little no more and become a little girl.  I know this time will be soon upon us, as time is racing along.

For now I will relish each night that I feel her pressed against me and listen to her slow breathing, as she drinks her milk and winds down for the day.  Kissing her beautiful warm face as I carefully place her in bed.  Laying her toy close to her, in case she wakes.  One day none of this will happen, for now I will relish every second.

  1. do relish the time as you are quite right it will go and become a warm memory in your head. My advise is to drop the evening milk before night time potty training. Keep the memories safe but don’t be sad there are so many new and wonderful steps ahead to treasure too. #MagicMoments

  2. This is lovely. It doesn’t go as fast or as suddenly as you may think, though – the night time feed & cuddle gets replaced by a night time book & a cuddle! #magicmoments

  3. Oh now this is a moment in time I very much miss! I know what you mean about the day’s slate being wiped clean by the quiet time before bed. What a beautiful and precious moment x

  4. I agree with Coombemill, there are so many wonderful memories to be had around the corner!! Although I get where you’re coming from, going from bottles to cup was a big deal (I delayed it for so long!) xx

  5. This is a beautiful post Aby, and it is a wrench when we say goodbye to particular routines like this. Fiona is right though, it will be replaced by the next wonderful routine x #magicemoments

  6. Oh what a beautiful post Aby and that photo of you and Baby is just beautiful too. The night routine is my favourite part of our day by far. x
