First Riding Kit

A couple of weeks ago Baby and I took a special trip.  We went to the tack shop to buy her very first riding clothes.  For someone who has ridden all her life and has been very heavily involved with horses, this moment was so special and although the lighting and quality of these pictures isn’t great, I wanted to share them with you anyway.

I started riding when I was three and have done a bit of everything over the years before focusing on Dressage, becoming a Dressage Rider, Trainer and Judge.  The loss of my top horse and continued deterioration of my back contributed to my decision to retire and I haven’t ridden since I lost my horse 3 years ago.

I obviously want my daughter to ride, but I have never wanted to force her to do something she didn’t enjoy.  Needless to say I am thrilled that she loves going riding; long may it continue!

Hat fitting

She really enjoyed being fitted for her hat, sadly this pink one didn’t fit properly.  We picked up some cute little jodphurs and pink boots, so she has the essential kit.

I used to spend so much time in shops like this and so it was really special to be sharing it with Baby.  Then it was off to a friend’s stables to ride a little rescued Shetland; sadly I have no pictures of him, but did get this cute one of Baby showing off her new togs.

Then at the end of last week, as friend invited us to ride her son’s pony, Phyllis.  I must admit we both fell in love.  She is such an adorable pony and was impeccably behaved considering she is only 6.  Baby had a ride round the outdoor and indoor schools and loved it so much.

She seems like a natural to me, as this is only about the 5th-6th time she has been on a pony and she looks like a little pro.  I hope she continues to enjoy it as much as I have over the years.

Just for posterity I want to share this photo of me riding my horse of a lifetime, Nibeley Warrior.  Who reached the level of Prix St Georges (not bad for a Welsh part bred!), before we sadly lost him to chronic lameness.  If Baby can find a friend like ‘Oz’ then she will be a very lucky girl.

  1. How wonderful! I started riding at the age of four and spent my whole childhood at the stables. My daughter now rides and loves it which is wonderful. It is such an expense though which is the hard part #OrdinaryMoments

Yes it is! I started at 3 and rode all my life. At the moment we are hitching rides from friend’s ponies as I can teach her when she needs to learn x

  2. Baby looks adorable in her horse riding outfit and the concentration whilst riding is very cute. Such a shame you aren’t able to any more but you can watch baby enjoy it for years to come. Ours has been on a pony once and keeps asking to ride them. I might have to take another trip out 😉 #OrdinaryMoments

  5. Ah lovely photos (of her and you!). She looks like a natural and sits on the pony so well. My 3 year old has discovered horse riding this summer and is a bit obsessed! We use the kit at the stables and there is only 1 pink pair of boots so I try to get there a bit early so we can grab them!

I am so happy that she sits like that! 🙂 Hopefully she will want to continue long term. We got our boots from Robinsons for about £10 🙂 x

  6. This must have been such a special day for you! Sharing our passions with our little ones is magical! Great photo of you and ‘Oz.’

  8. Awww such a lovely moment. I used to ride when I was younger and really want to get back in to it. Miss C loves going horse riding too. It’s such a fun hobby and very rewarding. I hope Baby enjoys riding as much as you do.
