I’m a country girl at heart, having grown up around horses and all kinds of animals. I started riding when I was three years old and rode on and off all my life until four or five years ago. I am no stranger to a county show. I love the eclectic mix of all the countryside has to offer and The Royal County of Berkshire Show is one of the finest county shows around.
We have been going to the show almost every year for the past 17 years and this year was Baby’s second time.
Our first stop was the farm area, which was organised by Millers Farm, from Hook in Hampshire. Baby had a ball, stroking goats, pigs and even getting to hold a chicken. She LOVED it and I think we will be heading to the proper Millers Farm soon.
We enjoyed wandering around, going with Hubby into the food tent to buy sauces and spices; soaking up all the sights and sounds the show has to offer.
There were hundreds of trade stands, which also meant so many bargains to be had! Baby was thrilled when we got her some cute little half chaps and gloves to ride in.
After a while we settled down to watch some of the gymkhana games. Baby was glued to it and I think she has set her sights on doing it herself when she is a little bit bigger!
As with most County shows, there are agricultural displays and classes for farm animals. Many showjumping classes and some showing classes take place during the two day show too. We enjoyed watching the dog agility display, although I think our dogs might be terrorised from this point forward.
We had such a lovely day at the show, the variety of events on offer means that there’s something that would suit every member of the family; a true family day out.
