A few months ago I won a blogging competition and the prize was a break at Treworgey Cottages in Cornwall. We live around four hours from Cornwall, so to break the journey up for Baby, we decided to go a day early and stay over night in Exeter.
The Rougemont, Thistle Hotel kindly offered us a complimentary stay. The hotel, which is situated on Queen Street in the City centre, was a prison until the mid-nineteenth century. The flagpole at the front of the hotel identifies the place where the prisoners were hanged. They have their own car park to the front, which costs £8 per night.
Check in was from 2pm, we arrived around 3pm to be met by very friendly and efficient reception staff.
We had been given a deluxe King size room on the top floor, which was at the end of a corridor, so as out-of-the-way as possible from any noise. The room was L shaped, which proved very useful for creating a little bedroom for Baby with the travel cot, that was waiting for us.
The room was fully equipped with everything you would expect; safe, trouser press, two hair dryers, tea/coffee facilities and toiletries. There was a handy seating area and side table.
After dropping off our bags, we headed out to stretch our legs with a walk around the city, before popping to Bill’s for dinner.
The hotel has a sister restaurant next door, as well as an extensive room service menu, which was very reasonably priced. Baby did try to order room service herself!
Back in our room, we were all tired, so we settled down for the night. The was some music and noise from the pub over the road, but it didn’t last very long and Mr Hubby assured me that the noise levels in general were actually really good for a city centre hotel.
Our departure day started at 4am, which has nothing to do with the hotel, and after a ‘trying to wake up’ shower, we set off downstairs for breakfast. Again, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. There was an extensive cold selection and plated cooked breakfasts to order. Baby got stuck into her pain au chocolat.
Then it was time to set off to our final destination and wave goodbye to The Rougemont. We would like to thank The Rougemont for a wonderful, child friendly stay.

I love staying in hotels, we end up having self catering holidays with the boys, but we escape for a child free night in a hotel sometimes if we can. It’s the breakfast part of hotels that Si likes the most, I just love not having to do any cooking and to sleep a luxurious bed! This place looks lovely 🙂

Oh it looks and sounds lovely! And fascinating too, the prison bit got my intrigue! 😉 There’s nothing lovelier than kipping in a lovely hotel. Such a treat for us shattered parents! X
