We were invited to try out the new kid’s menu at Cafe Rouge and jumped at the chance for a lovely family lunch.
Café Rouge say “Using only the finest ingredients served in a stylish and relaxed environment, Café Rouge’s carefully designed menu has been created to tickle even the pickiest youngsters’ taste buds. To cater for fussy eaters, Café Rouge is offering easy first courses of warm fougasse bread finger with d’signy butter and crudités with a tomato dip. Other (hopefully) tantrum-busting dishes include the new tasty Macaroni Cheese, Le Burger which uses the best Aberdeen Angus beef and the sautéed ‘Poulet Ooh la la’ with all the trimmings. For children who like to eat like an adult, there is a selection of mouth-watering desserts such as traditional French crêpes with chocolate sauce or children can get their ‘five a day’ the Café Rouge way with a simple bowlful of fresh fruit salad. Ice cream is a classic summer indulgence and is available in six tempting flavours. All of the petits enfants favourite dishes can be washed down with flavoured milk, bottle green cordial or a selection of soft drinks.
Sounds great to me! We were keen to find out what would tempt us from the menu (kids menu here) in the Oxford restaurant.
The kid’s menu was really well designed with lots to colour in, puzzles to solve and even some French words to learn. Costing £6.95 for a starter, main, dessert plus soft/milk drink. The starter was warm Fougasse finger and crudities with a tomato dip. For her main course Baby had Bangers et Mash, served with gravy and peas/sweetcorn and for dessert she had profiteroles with warm chocolate sauce.
Baby isn’t the best eater in the world, I think she would happily live on bread sticks, but she scoffed the Fougasse finger. She didn’t touch the rest of the plate, but to be honest it would have really surprised me if she had.
Mr Hubby picked Plateau de Charcuterie and I plumped for Champignones a L’ail, as I love mushrooms! They were both yummy.
Baby was quite under the weather and, as it turned out, had a virus and a nasty viral rash, so she needed lots of Mummy cuddles throughout the meal
Baby’s main was a sizeable meal and the sausages were very good quality (we might have tested them!). Unfortunately it didn’t come with gravy, which she would have enjoyed more.
My main course of Poulet Breton, chicken with a sauce of leeks, mushrooms and courgettes, served with mustard mash, was really tasty and well cooked. Mr Hubby praised his Cromesquis D’eglefim (fish cakes and fries!).
Of course Baby had to have a milkshake! They also do refills on the children’s drinks for 75p.
Yummy profiteroles!
Mummy shared them as Baby was more interested in the chocolate sauce, straight from the pot!
The staff were so helpful and Baby was even given a balloon, which she loved. We made sure we had time for a little photo shoot on the way back to the car.
We had a lovely time at Cafe Rouge, the food was yummy, there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very attentive. I would definitely recommend Cafe Rouge to my friends and readers.
