A couple of weekends ago Mr Hubby was away at a festival and Baby and I were at a loose end, so we decided to take Butterkist up on their invitation to take part in their #GetCoated challenge. The idea behind this challenge is to encourage children to increase the amount outdoor play they do.
Earlier this year, Natural England found that more than 10% of English children have not been to a natural environment (beach, park, forest etc.) in the last 12 months. Isn’t that shocking?! I am an outdoorsy type and can’t imagine being in that position.

Butterkist have just launched a new yogurt-coated popcorn and they are combining this launch with the campaign to encourage children to create adventures outside exploring the countryside, ideally with some yogurt coated popcorn to keep their energy levels up!
The lovely folk at Butterkist sent us a backpack filled with lots of things to help us on our adventure and so we set off to the Stickman trail at Alice Holt Forest in Surrey. We had never been to the trail before, but Baby is a huge fan of all of the Julia Donaldson books, so I knew she would love it. These trails are such a fabulous idea, they bring the magic of the books into real-life for the children and they also encourage outdoor play, adventures, and being active.
We had been sent a special Stickman Trail pack and in our backpack were some fabulous essential items; suncream, wet wipes, first-aid kit, colouring books, crayons and obviously packs of the new Butterkist yoghurt covered popcorn.

The packs had lots of great stuff inside, sheets on which to do bark rubbings, a list of things to spot and tick off, things to make when you get home and lots more.
Baby is quite a fussy child and I wasn’t that hopeful that she would even try the popcorn, but she did and she loved it! She polished the entire bag off in double quick time, so I know it was a hit.
We then set off to find the Stick Man, Baby was so excited! The Stick Man trail at Alice Holt is 1.5 miles and although she became tired near the end, she managed to walk (well run!) the whole way round.

It wasn’t too long until we came across the Gruffalo which she loved.

At each of the checkpoint there was some information about the outdoors and a task to get the children involved.

There were also animals to spot along the way.

Baby claimed the first aid kit as her own and was talking about falling over so she could put a plaster on! After explaining that this was NOT the way to go about getting a plaster, we carried on our way.

There was lots of leaping, running, laughing and enjoying being outside. All the things the Butterkist campaign is trying to encourage. The weather was not really on our side, but a little drizzle couldn’t deter us and we still had a wonderful time on the trail.

Then we rounded a corner and found the Stick Man!
Beside the Stick Man was a giant Gruffalo! The Stick Man and the Gruffalo in the same place, mind blowing when you’re three!
Crossing the finish line was cause for a big celebration!
Butterkist Yogurt Coated Popcorn is available in Asda, a 160g bag is £1.49 and the multipack containing 6x20g is £1.69.
Have you been on the Stickman Trail? How much time do your kids spend outside playing?

L0oks like you had a great time 🙂 There’s a very similar Stick Man and Gruffalo trail at Birches Valley in Staffordshire too. Makes a lovely (virtually free) day day out doesn’t it? My kids love it.
