Our weekend break with Cottages.com

Last weekend we were invited to go away with Cottages.com; as hubby has been working away a lot we thought a short family break was just what we all needed. Our first challenge was to decide where to go, as cottages.com cover the UK, Ireland, France and Italy. I always want to go abroad, but we decided that as it was only a short break (due to hubby’s work restrictions), we would have more time there if we stayed close to home.  We settled on Moorleaze in Witham Friary, Frome, Somerset, which was only around an hour and a half from us.

We arrived around 3pm on the Friday, which was perfect timing as you can check in from 3pm. I love opening the door to a holiday cottage, even though there are always pictures on the internet, it always seems different in the flesh. This cottage didn’t disappoint; spotlessly clean and equipped with a washing machine and dishwasher.

The living space was open plan and quite a good size. The cottage sleeps 6 across the three bedrooms; one double and two twin rooms.

There was such a lovely view and patio doors opening onto a picnic/BBQ area. The site was quite substantial, with various walks around the grounds.

Upstairs there was a main family bathroom, with a shower in the bath which is so handy as many places just have a shower. Ava isn’t that keen on showers and would always opt for a bath, so it was great to have that option.

There were plenty of towels (including swimming ones) and extra duvets and pillows in all rooms, really appreciated if, like me, you’re always freezing!

In the main bedroom there was an en-suite with a shower.

I loved this stunning view from the skylight in one of the twin rooms.

Although the cottages were quite spacious, there was such a lovely cosy feeling. The cream building on the right is the swimming pool and sauna building.

Ava had so much fun at the playground area, which was a short walk from our cottage.

She discovered a talent for climbing walls and, I think, surprised herself when she got to the top. After this shot she scaled the wall another six times!

Shortly after we arrived we ventured into the games room, which was really well kitted out. Toys, games, DVDs, comfy couches plus snooker tables, table football and table tennis.  She was so taken with table football, until she tried table tennis!

Which I think might be one of her favourite things ever!

The following day, we ventured to Nunney to explore the ruined castle, it was so beautiful. We wandered round Frome, Ava and her Aunty had some yummy chicken wrap street food and then we wandered round the farmers market.

Hubby and Aunty J loaded up on cheese and bread at the market, before we found the coolest place for lunch.

After I bought a new dress (got to be done!), we headed home for a swim. Over the weekend, we used the pool twice and both times it was empty which was so lovely. Aunty J tried out the sauna and gave it the thumbs up too.

The only downside to our stay was the wifi access, which could be described as agricultural. We all had trouble connecting and then one evening it went down across the site, meaning I had to drive to the local Sainsbury’s the following morning to do the urgent things I should have done the evening before.

We had a fabulous time at Moorleaze and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Disclosure: We were guests of Moorleaze in return for an honest review.

  1. What a lovely cottage with all of those super facilities. We often travel back to England to visit family and friends and we prefer staying in a cottage as it gives us more freedom. Will have to check this company out x

  2. I’m so pleased you managed to get away as a family, it came at the right for you all. What a beautiful place, the views looks stunning. I love the look of the cottage, nice and homely with everything you would need. How lucky you managed to get the pool to yourself. We will definitely be checking these out for future breaks X

  3. LOL I love the wifi description. The buildings look beautiful. We stayed in a B&B in Frome before heading to Glastonbury festival and loved it.
