Then Solar do Farelo is the perfect destination for those looking for a novelty element to their meal, at a reasonable price after a morning of swimming and tanning. The food is of course delicious too, with the restaurant’s beef stroganoff dish considered the most popular choice. It’s a pleasant place to visit, and the atmosphere is a lively one with all that wine flowing!
4. Arc’da Velha, Lagos
This family owned restaurant tucked away on a side street is not a well known destination for food, but it’s well worth a visit. The mother and son team running the place offer a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and dishes that you’ll be talking about forever more after eating them, the cheese tapas starter and chorizo dishes are popular choices, with the meat cooked at the table and creating a spectacular light show as the liquor and drippings it is cooked in mix together. It’s so good you might be considering by a Portugal property close by so you can pay a visit more often. Seriously.
5. Cantinho do Avillez, Chiado
If you’re looking for a chic, dining experience while in the country Cantinho is a popular destination and is run by one of Portugal’s most famous chefs, Jose Avillez. The restaurant draws inspiration from dishes from around the world and the lunchtime menu offers a more affordable meal with the steak sandwich recommended by many people.
6. Tagide Wine and Tapas Bar, Chiado
Another Chiado location, the Tagide Wine and Tapas bar is a favourite for those visiting the area at both lunch time and for an evening meal although it’s actually the custard tarts that bring the visitors in (and is something Portugal is renowned for). Heated up and served with a generous scoop of cinnamon ice cream they’re definitely a must try.
