On Good Friday we headed a few miles down the road to Lambourn, to attend the Racing Open Day event. I love horses and although I have never been into Racing, we live right next to the Valley of the Racehorse and so we decided it would be a good event to experience. I knew Baby would enjoy seeing the horses. Every Good Friday all the racing yards in Lambourn open their doors to the public. There is also an events field, with demonstrations, fair ground attractions and tradestands. When we got there, we headed to Clive Cox’s yard to have a look round.
Baby was fascinated that the first horse she came across was lying down!
She loved stroking the gorgeous horses, although was a bit apprehensive about the feistier ones!
After wandering round the beautiful yard and patting most of the horses, we set off to the centre of the village to the event field. I tried to win Baby a cuddly toy on a random number stall….I am not sure if ANY number was a winner, but the ten I bought certainly weren’t!
We stopped for a drink and Baby enjoyed her milkshake very much!
Then was the best part of the day. Baby rode a pony! She rode a Donkey when she was 9 months old and has ridden two ponies since. I was so excited to see if she still wanted to ride and whether she would enjoy it as much this time. She got a little fed up waiting her allocated pony arrive back from taking another child around the field. However, as soon as Drummer arrived, she was good to go. She sat there like a pro and I love the little ‘pleased with herself’ look she was giving her Daddy as she rode away.
About half of the way round she patted her pony and when she dismounted, she patted him again and said ‘Kan-koo, see you soon’.
I know that I am biased being her Mum, but how utterly adorable?! We then walked round the rest of the show, saw the incredible birds of prey, the hounds and various tradestands.
Then Baby wanted to have a little sit down and share Mr Hubby’s fish and chips!
So, that was our day in Lambourn captured. Baby and I really enjoyed seeing the horses and I can’t tell you how proud I am every time I see her ride a pony.

I cannot tell you how much I’m looking forward to teaching my boys how to ride, and buying them a teensy tiny Dartmoor pony to play with! These pictures are adorable. I literally squealed aloud.
