Shrek’s Adventure & Sea Life London Aquarium Review

Last weekend we headed to the big smoke. We had received an invitation from Merlin Annual Pass to visit Shrek’s Adventure and the Sea Life London Aquarium, so we were very excited to experience both.

We decided to drive, as train/tube travel can be a real pain and the bonus was the car park was right next to the Houses of Parliament. We obviously had to stop for a photo, especially as Baby loved the horse statue.

A quick walk over the bridge and we were at the London Eye where both attractions are located.

We were early, so treated Baby to her first proper McDonalds! (parents of the year right there!).

We were booked onto the 11am tour at Shrek’s Adventure and had no idea what to expect.  As we were queuing to get in Baby entertained herself by changing colour!

Shrek’s Adventure is a performance consisting of CGI and actors taking you on a adventure through the story of some tourists (us) in a flying bus killing Rumplestiltskin’s witch-wife-to-be!  We had to find Shrek in order for him to save the day.

Unfortunately, you are not allowed to film or take any pictures when you are within the adventure, which made me feel like my arms had been chopped off! The adventure was fun and the actors obviously loved what they were doing. It had some funny moments and there was a mix of CGI and real-life, which was really well-executed, as you would expect from a Dreamworks production.

Baby is three and she was a little scared at times, she was under the weather when we went, so it might have just been that and she did chat about the adventure later in the day. At the end of the Adventure you are presented with a book detailing your adventure with pictures that the staff had taken on the way round. This is a lovely keepsake of the day, but it was a little bit rich for my blood at £25 for the cheapest option.

Next up was the Sea Life London Aquarium, which is practically next door. At the start the congestion from the sheer volume of people was a little overwhelming. Everyone was being stopped so the staff could take pictures, but the room was really hot and people were packed in. We had to wait until we could get close enough to the front to say we didn’t want our picture to be taken, before we could get through.

Once inside the queues were considerably less and Baby really enjoyed watching the fish.

We all loved the walk-through tunnel with the Rays and Sharks swimming over head.

The Sea Life London Aquarium was as I expected for an inner city Aquarium. Apart from the congestion at the start, my only negative was that I always prefer to see Penguins with some outdoor space and I felt a little sad to see them totally enclosed inside.

Then it was time to head back to the car, via some boat spotting through the pretty bridge.

We had grabbed a drink and so sat on the grass opposite the Houses of Parliament, while Baby did a spot of grass rolling.

Thanks Melin, we had a great day!

Disclosure: We received free entry to the attraction in return for an honest review.
