At this time of the year most of us think about going on a family holiday. It is great to break out of your routine and enjoy some time together.
The only problem is that you have to pack, which is a task that very few people look forward to doing. When the travel firm momondo asked 1,000 of their website visitors about holidays and stress, 33% of women said they found organising everything for the holiday is stressful. Making sure that everything is done on time, and that everyone has what they need is tricky.
Use a packing list and start early
The trick to taking some of the stress out of packing is to be organised, and give yourself plenty of time to get it all done. It really is worth downloading a packing list from the web and editing it to suit your family and the type of holiday you are planning. You will only have to do it once then take 10 minutes to tweak it each time you travel.
If you can, start the packing process early. Make a list of each item you need, and try to get everything bought a couple of weeks before you are due to travel. As you buy what you need put it in the case and tick it off the list as you go.
Essentials people often forget to pack
Working out what clothes you need to take is not difficult. You just need to think about what activities you are likely to be doing while you are away. Once you have done that you will be able to choose enough suitable outfits to take each member of the family through the holiday.
However, there are a few essential items a lot of us still forget to pack. This leaves you running around the shops instead of relaxing on the beach.
A good bag
It is always a good idea to pack a large bag into which you can fit everything you need for sightseeing, or beach days. If you are planning active days out a backpack is ideal. Usually, you can use the bag you take to the airport for this.
Comfortable shoes
Most of us remember to pack the right type of shoes for everyone, but it is important to make sure it is comfortable. Get everyone to wear their holiday footwear in properly before you go away. The last thing you need is to have to wear sandals that have stiff straps which cut into your feet and make them bleed.
Essential medications
Nobody likes to think about getting ill on holiday, but you have to be realistic and be prepared for that eventuality. You should always pack painkillers, stomach medications and bite treatments. That way you can quickly provide relief, and, in some cases, avoid having to go to a doctor or find a pharmacy.
The above tips really will make it easier for you to pack for your next trip. As a result, you are more likely to arrive at your destination in a relaxed mood, and be ready to start enjoying your holiday straightaway.
