Travelling with kids hacks

  • When you pack your kids clothes, put each complete outfit (including pants and socks) in separate bags (use large zip lock bags). Then is is really quick to just grab a bag each morning and there’s no scrabbling around for socks, pants and things that go together.
  • To nip boredom in the bud make a travel binder for your kids. Include separate wallets filled with paper, stickers and fix a pencil case in there too. This way they have all they need to entertain themselves.
  • Add lots of fun apps to tablets and phones. These will be lifesavers if you run into travel delays or if your kids are going loopy in the airport and you need to make them sit down for a while.
  • Don’t worry about not being able to take your little one’s bed rail with you, use a pool noodle instead placed under the sheet.
  • Make sure you take lollipops. They could come in really useful to suck on to ease ear pressure on the plane.
  • Hang a backpack full of activities over the headrest of the front seat for long car journeys. Fill it with various toys and things to entertain each child. Then they can just help themselves and it will reduce the risk of things being dropped on the floor and cried over!
  • Long journeys can be really boring for kids and they will need to blow off steam. So build in time to allow your kids burn energy this built up energy. Even a quick run round on some grass can do them the world of good.
  • Take a packet of plasters with you and use them to cover electrical outlets in hotel rooms.
