Emerging friendships

When Baby was younger she and all the other babies would lie on blankets, while us mummy’s drank tea and chatted.  Their interaction with each other was limited.  As they grew older, they started to take a little more notice of each other.  I’m not sure that there was too much recognition, may be a passing familiarity.  Baby is now one and things have definitely changed, proper friendships have begun to develop.

She has two close friends TB and D and I love watching her interact with them.  There is recognition, there is friendship, there is love.

Baby & D

Over recent weeks Baby and her little friends have started conversing more than before.  Chatting away to each other in their unique language.  A few days ago at TB’s house I just sat quietly and watched them play.  It was so sweet, Baby went to pick up TB’s doll and TB said something to her.  Whatever it was, it was enough to make Baby hand her the doll straight away.  Then they sat together, Baby took all the wooden biscuits out of the box and handed each one in turn to TB.  It is so lovely to see these interactions, the sharing, the consideration.  They are developing their personalities every day and I love that they seem to have the start of genuine friendships.

TB & D

I can’t imagine what it would feel like to have friends that remain your friends through your whole life.  I think it would be magical.  These three friends have all known each other since they were about three months old.  I wonder what the future has in store for them.

  5. That is amazing Aby. I have a friend that I met the week I was born and we are best friends still to this day. She has been in my wedding as maid of honor and we even had our baby girls on the same EXACT day. She is godmother to my kids and it’s an amazing feeling to have this bond for my whole life and I know we will be like this forever, close as family. I hope your little one has that too. Lovely pictures. It’s great to find a group when the kids are little for them to grow and bond with. I was lucky with Buba to do the same and now their mothers have had second babies too so Missy Moo has her own group of friends. I love watching the kiddies bonding so young. It’s bittersweet. What a lovely post. #magicmoments

Thank you hun. That is so lovely that you have that bond with your friend. I hope these three stay close, even though they may end up in different schools x

  6. Isn’t it lovely watching them start to develop their own independent relationships with other children! My 17 year old is still friends with the two babies she grew up with!

  7. Oh, that’s lovely, babies aren’t generally “social” creatures, yours must be so geared naturally and will probably love company all her life.

She is SO social, she would happily go and sit with strangers and is obsessed by watching other kids when we are out and about x

  11. Isn’t it lovely when they actually start interacting! And I can confirm that it gets even cuter when they get to three or four and actually start hugging each other too!! I really hope mine hold on to their childhood friendships. I know my oldest friend is someone I’ve known since I was two! #magicmoments

  12. My eldest son is 12 and is still friends with a boy whose Mum I met at antenatal classes, despite the fact we now live in different countries. My oldest friend also goes back to when I was a week old, the lady (then aged just 15) who would look after me when Mum was working. I always call her my other Mum!

  14. Like you say, it’s so lovely to see friendships blossom at such an early age. I still have friends who I went to school with and although we no longer live near to each other, whenever we meet up it’s like it always was – so comfortable and fun.
