Grow Your Own With Kids

I think there is something lovely about growing produce with children.  It’s wonderful for them to plant something and see it grow, developing into something that they can eat.  I have aspirations about growing veggies in the garden, but realistically I would probably forget they were out there and kill them off; Charley Dimmock I am not!

Planting herbs, ours were from Spalding Bulb, is MUCH more within my capabilities, or at least I hoped!

One of the major bonuses to herbs is that they can be grown anywhere,  the smallest window sill will do, so flat dwellers you need not miss out! The instructions stated to plant the herbs in the box they came in, but Baby wanted to use this lovely tin planter so we risked it and popped them in there.  Everything we needed was in the box, apart from water and it was really quick and easy to plant it up.  We left out the parsley as none of us like it and popped some cress seeds its place.

Then all we had to do was pop it in the window in the kitchen where there is lots of light and cross our fingers that Mummy had not cursed them with her lack of green fingers.  Lo and behold it wasn’t long before little green shoots started to appear.  I showed Baby their progress everyday and in a few days there was significant growth.

Baby was quite dubious about smelling the herbs and seemed surprised that they had grown so much.

It was lovely to grow these with Baby, now hubby just needs to cook us something yummy with them!
