Live #HealthilyEverAfter with Disney

Disney, the iconic filmmaker, has been entertaining us all with their wonderful stories, encased in their very own brand of magic, for 93 years.

Now, by launching their #HealthilyEverAfter campaign, Disney is encouraging us all to live a healthier lifestyle and develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.  So many amazing Disney characters can become role models and encourage healthy habits for our children and us too!

Over the last few months Baby has found a passion for all things Disney and our house has become Disney central! So when BritMums asked us to share some healthy tips as part of their new #HealthilyEverAfter campaign, we knew we wanted to be involved.  I decided to focus on two particular areas; being active and play.

BEING ACTIVE

Sometimes it can be difficult to get kids interested in going out and about, especially when the weather is less than desirable.  Fresh air, a bit of dirt and being face-to-face with the elements is so good for our children.  With the increase in technology, it also gives everyone some much needed screen-free time.

There are so many Disney characters that could inspire your children to brave the winter weather and get active.  One of Baby’s  inspirations comes from Brave.

As a pony mad, part-tom-boy girl, Merida is one of Baby’s idols.  She adores going to see the ponies, running round the stables pretending she is shooting arrows. Even in the pouring rain, we will be at the stables getting her pony ready and going for a little ride. Baby always wants to gallop, like Merida does on her horse, but she is too little!

As she rides under branches which overhang the arena, she stands up in her stirrups, as if she is getting ready to leap off and grab one.

She is never happier than when she is on her pony.  Riding is such a great sport to promote a healthy lifestyle for life and I am so glad Merida encourages her even more.

If horses aren’t your thing, why not get some inspiration from Cars and encourage your children to pretend they are cars racing around.  Baby likes to be Lightning McQueen, especially when there are puddles to run through too. “I’m a precision instrument of speed and aerodynamics” and boy does she test out her speed!

PLAY

For children, play has to be the most important thing they do each day and Disney provides so much inspiration.  One of Baby’s favourite films, which has now actually become a little bit of an obsession, is Frozen.  She is in love with Anna; well and truly smitten.  I must admit I love it too, even at my age.

She wants to dress as Anna ALL THE TIME and just dances non stop for the entire length of the film.  Acting out scenes and reciting the script; so cute!  It is amazing to see how much scope for imaginative play comes from just one film.

She also takes a few Anna selfies! A blogger through and through.

Disney movies fuel children’s imagination, opening up a world of possibilities which they can explore through play.

  1. It doesn’t take a lot for some kids to be active. Sometimes all they need is a toy and a playmate. But it’s so much cooler with a pony.

  2. My daughter is just as obsessed with Frozen – she loves dancing and singing along. Great ideas to use that to inspire kids to get outdoors.

  3. I love how much fun Baby has with her pony. You can just see so much love! I used to love my riding lessons when I was younger and I can’t wait for Boo to start them.

  4. Gorgeous photos and I love this campaign. Rowan is very active. He attends swimming lessons each week and also attends Rugger Rascals which is a toddlers weekly rugby based activity. We also ensure we go on plenty of walks and toddler groups, etc. It’s so important for children to be healthy and active.

  5. Lovely post and photos – we love Disney. Pickle loves Lightening Mcqueen too – he shouts ‘I am faster than fast….I’m Lightening Mcqueen! Kaz x

  6. She really does look at home at a pony and I like how you said that Disney characters can encourage children to be healthier. Take Woody and the gang for instance, they go on missions, exercise and dance and more.

  7. What lovely photos and its great that a brand like Disney are getting involved in promoting healthy living. Love your little princess on her horse.
