I love preserving our family memories in any way I can. In fact, that was the main motivation for starting this blog in the first place. Memories are etched in our minds forever, but I want to be able to sit with Baby in the future; to touch, feel and remember from looking at our collection of treasured items. Hopefully, she will remember all the things we did as a family and how rich her childhood was, with the aid of these items.
Everywhere we go we collect things to add to our memory collection, these keepsakes are dotted all over our house. So when I heard about the Safestore blogger competition to create a memory box; I thought it would be the incentive I needed to get all our things together.
Firstly I wanted to personalise our plain box, so we would always remember what was inside and our memories would begin to be triggered even before we opened it up. So Baby and I set to work with some marker pens (MY responsibility), some photos and lots of colourful additions!
We were very pleased with how it turned out and I love that it is so personal to us.
Our next challenge was collecting all our treasures.
1. Our first ever family Christmas card and Baby’s first letter from Santa.
2. Baby’s hospital tag.
3. Lots of photos. For a photography obsessed family these are so important to us. There is a real mixture here, from Baby’s first pictures to days out at the beach.
4. My first ever Mother’s Day card from my beautiful daughter. There were times (many times) that I doubted I would ever be a mum, so this card is very special to me.
5. The newspaper from the day Baby was born!
6. When we go on a family day out, we buy Baby a key ring. Then I attach a little luggage tag with the place and date written on it.
7. One of the homemade party bags I made for Baby’s Alice in Wonderland 1st Birthday party.
8. Baby’s first ever Christmas cards.
9. Baby’s wonderful selection of 1st Birthday cards.
10. As part of Baby’s 1st Birthday (which was almost a year ago!, wow!), I asked people to write a message to her in this cute little book. Then I filled the rest of the book with birthday pictures.
Then all we had to do it was place all our wonderful keepsakes into our personalised box, before storing it in a safe place.
