Life Lessons

38 lessons for 38 years

Last week I turned 38, what a grand old age!  I thought I would reflect on the lessons I have learned so far in my life.

Life Lessons

  1. You are stronger than you think.
  2. True friendship can be found in the strangest of places.
  3. Don’t go to sleep with your contact lenses in, as you will wake up and think you are cured.
  4. Having family and friends means you are truly blessed.
  5. Life is too short for petty arguments.
  6. Tuna is the work of the devil.
  7. Laugh every day, it is good for the soul.
  8. Be nice.
  9. Full hands make for a full heart.
  10. Don’t put your Granny in a bag…. (Eddie Izzard fans?….No? Just me then!).
  11. You can be brave and push your boundaries.
  12. Music brings you happiness.
  13. Your daughters face is all the beauty you will ever need.
  14. Every day might not be good, but there is good in every day.
  15. Fake confidence until you feel confident.
  16. The loss of friends isn’t your fault it is theirs.
  17. Pure happiness is found in the arms of your child.
  18. Earrings always make you feel more polished.
  19. Finding your soul mate is a true gift.
  20. What people think of you is in their control, not yours.
  21. Your friends can be closer than your family.
  22. Dark lipstick doesn’t make you look like a lady of the night.
  23. You really don’t like Olives.
  24. ……or Coffee.
  25. Help people whenever you can, the Universe remembers that stuff.
  26. Your voice should be heard as much as anyone elses.
  27. Don’t worry so much.  Life has a funny way of working out.
  28. You will always find comfort at the bottom of a cup of tea.
  29. Just because you CAN do everything, doesn’t mean you SHOULD do everything.
  30. Your worth is not measured by the numbers on the scales.
  31. A full heart is better than a full wallet.
  32. Do it, don’t wish you had.
  33. As much as you would love to, you can’t sing.
  34. Mama is THE BEST job you will ever have.
  35. Cherish your friends like the precious gift they are.
  36. Always be yourself, unless you can be a Unicorn..then be a Unicorn.
  37. For every compliment you give to someone else, try to give one to yourself.
  38. Love yourself as much as others do.

What lessons have you learned?

  3. Great list! True and wise on so many levels. I will be 38 later on this year – maybe I need to sit down and think of the lessons I have learned, too, though you’ve already covered them brilliantly. And happy belated birthday!

  4. Great list. I too turned 38 this year. It made me feel a bit old, mostly because I feel like an older mummy compared to so many others. Anyway, I digress! Love this list. Some wise words in there and things we should remind ourselves of often. Is this one on your wall? It should be x

  5. Happy birthday and a great list as always but… you don’t look your age 🙂 Thanks for having us on #thelist

  6. Great List! My mummy went to bed drunk with contact lenses in once and panicked. The next day she fretted trying to get them out, poking herself in the eye! They weren’t there….she thought they had gone behind her eyeballs! LOL. Turns out in her drunken stupor she’d forgotten she actually HAD taken them out by the kitchen mirror. Adults eh?!? Thanks for hosting #TheList

  8. Great list, I can relate to lots of those too. Especially ‘Do it, don’t wish you have’. That’s definitely my motto at the moment!

  9. I’m with you on the olives – UGH! A great list for a great linky. Thanks for hosting. And Happy Belated Birthday! xx

  10. I love number 3, I remember waking my husband to tell him I could see life was amazing. To which he told me I was a drunk fool the night before and had all my make up on as well as my contact lenses in….

  11. Well this is a fabulous list, apart from the inclusion of delicious olives, yummy tuna and I think you must have accidentally typed in coffee – is it not a life essential?! seriously though some beautiful insights gained over 38 years. #thelist

  12. Great list Aby I was nodding along to so many of these – it’s amazing how hitting my forties made me start reevaluating a lot of the things that seemed important to me when I was younger. Yet at the same time the things I loved as a child are still my passions x

  13. Fabulous list, Aby! Agree with all these things. Amazing the wisdom that comes with years, isn’t it? xx #TheList

  14. So many words of wisdom. Definitely with you on the tuna. And coffee. And olives. And pretty much all of the other lessons!

  15. Great list! Though I quite like tuna… and olives… and coffee… Number 3 reminded me of possibly my funniest couple of days at work ever when a contacts-wearing colleague came in proclaiming that she could suddenly see out of one eye. We went over the possibility that she’d just left a lens in but she swore she hadn’t. She got progressively excited, and I got progressively concerned that maybe she had a brain tumour… And then the next day she very sheepishly came in wearing her glasses and admitted that actually she had left a contact lens in after all. We laughed. A lot. 🙂 xx

  16. Great lessons Aby! I am an Eddie Izzard fan but haven’t seen him performing for years – granny in a bag definitely sounds like one of his though 🙂 X

  17. Love this huni. I have put a reminder in my calendar to do a list when I turn 35. Your list will echo mine in many ways, especially the lessons learned about friendship…and dark lipstick 😉 xxx

  18. You’re a wise woman Aby! 38 years on this planet have done you proud! Couldn’t agree more with this list. I particularly love the ‘ A day may not be good, but there’s good in every day’ or words to that effect! Although I have to disagree with you about the olives! 😉 x
