5 Things; I Wish I Wasn’t

Time to check in with ‘5 Things’.  This week I am sharing;

5 things

I think it is human nature to think about how our lives may be different if we had different characteristics.  If we were braver or more confident, what opportunities could we grab with both hands.  Does our personality hold us back?

So what do I wish I wasn’t?

  • Messy – I long for a house that Kim and Aggie would be proud of.  Alas, I do not have such a house and rather than proud, I think they would be somewhat disinterested in our abode.  I want clutter free, shiny surfaces.  What I have is LOTS of stuff and clutter mountains everywhere.  I will just have to resign myself to looking at clutter free homes on Pinterest.
  • Lacking in Confidence – I totally believe that there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance.  I would never want to be thought of as someone who blows their own trumpet. However, I do know how important confidence is and I would like more of it!  I want to feel confident, without worrying about whether others will consider me to be big-headed. Something which I could never be.
  • As sensitive – I am a sensitive soul.  Negativity cuts me deeply and scars me for a long time.  I wish I wasn’t as affected by the words and actions of others.
  • Overweight – Well what can I say, having spent most of my life as an overweight person, I would love to experience life as someone who isn’t overweight and who isn’t held back by their size.  Hopefully, this year I will get my wish.
  • As loyal a friend – If I wrote a list of my favourite characteristics about myself, this would probably be on there too.  Strange how our strengths can also be our flaws. Being a loyal friend, means I invest so much of myself into relationships.  I would literally do anything for my close friends.  This has, on occasion, left me feeling let down by people, especially since Baby was born.

Is there anything you wish you weren’t?

  1. I could have written this post exactly the same. Messy – oh yes! Lacking in confidence – definitely. Sensitive – far too much. Overweight – still not started to tackle the 7/8 stone I need to lose and just like you I’m often left disappointed that my friends don’t seem to be there for me when I need them, despite everything I’ve done for them. I guess it all goes to make us who we are though, whether we’d prefer not to have these traits or not x

  2. I’m with you on the MESS factor. I think it’s very, very, very hard to be anything else with small children. Plus I’d rather play with them than tidy up. I actually think there is a huge difference between confidence and arrogance – arrogance comes with an air of superiority, lack of social skills and ruffles feathers. Confidence is self-belief, positivity and calmness.

  3. I’m messy as anything, and really need to find some time to spring clean yet again! Blogging has ruined my house!!
As for the weight lovely, you are doing so well and look so good on it, congratulate yourself for that and enjoy it!!

  4. Oh Aby I do love you so. You are most certainly going to get your wish about your weight this year- you were rocking that dress yesterday! I wish I had a tidy house too, but a tidy home is a boring home…. That is what I like to tell myself anyway haha! xxxx

  5. I’ve been following your blog for a while and you have done so well with your weight- you look lovely! Don’t lose heart.
Being sensitive and a good friend is fine- just hurts when people trample you. *hugs*

  6. The friend thing gets to me as well. I’m too nice a person sometimes! I’ve been fighting the weight battle my whole life. I don’t think I’ll ever get there with that one, so just making changes to be fit again, and not worrying about weight loss any more, I’ve wasted too much of my life worrying about it.

    A fab post xx

  7. I think am all of these but I don’t give a damn. Just be you. Sod anyone who doesn’t like it. The traits people should wish they didn’t have are things like cruelty, spite, insensitivity, blatant disregard for others and the world in general etc etc
The things you are never hurt anyone – in fact they probably make you a nicer person. If you fancy losing weight that’s nice but don’t let anything hold you back, certainly not what society’s prejudice tells you about yourself.
I sometimes wish I didn’t have a tendency to speak my mind but oops there I go again!

  9. Stay that loyal friend … you sometimes get hurt but this is something you will never change about yourself.. I am that friend too.

  10. Sounds like you’re doing all the things to change some of this for the better lovely. You might find the first post I’ve linked to #thelist today useful xx

  11. I can relate to everything on this list! My house is a mess with clutter everywhere , i am blaming the children for this one as they have so much stuff. I also feel like i am held back by my weight which in turn makes me lack in confidence. You are doing so amazing on with your weight loss though, you are a real inspiration and i am sure you will get to your goal weight this year xx

  13. I could have written this myself! I find no time for tidy with a baby and a blog! Confidence is a funny one isn’t it and mixed with sensitivity and maybe a bit of paranoia (on my part) it can get knocked so easily.

  14. I nodded along to all of those because it felt like my list! I’ve felt let down by friends too much, I am overly emotional, my house is a mess, I lack confidence… You, my dear are utterly wonderful and I promise never to let you down xxx

Ah thank you huni. Feel a little emotional this morning and this made me fill up. Thank you for being a fabulous friend xxx

  15. I’m now thinking about my wish list. I’m surprised you lack confidence. I hope you learn to be more confident and worry less 🙂

  16. I’m with you on the mess! things just get dumped or moved out of the way of toddler hands and then we end up with piles of crap on stairs, worktops, on top of units.. anywhere higher that waist high really lol.
I do disagree with a couple of people on here though saying we cant change who we are.. in some aspects we can. We just have to have enough motivation.

  17. I definitely share the confidence one but I only feel it in my real life, I hope I’m not big headed in my work life but I just know what to and so feel more confident. I remember the friends one very well, I am much more guarded now, not always a good thing though either. I am OCD about the house and always feel it dirty and untidy, I don’t think it actually is though ha! Another thoughtful post Aby xxxx

  18. Wow this could’ve been my list! This is such a lovely post, I don’t often think of things I wish I wasn’t so it has really given me food for thought.

  19. Messy is definitely up there for me! Your weight loss has been amazing by the way, you give inspiration to others in a similar position and it can only boost your confidence. xx

I am just trying my best, but hope people realise they can do it too (although I realise it is not easy) xx

  20. I can definitely identify with some of these. I wish my house was less messy too but there are only so many hours in the day! The confidence one did surprise me though – you do come across as being confident.

  21. Definitely confidence for me I might seem it but I am really not but I am always scared ill sound like I’m gloating, also mess I try and try to keep my house tidy but since i discovered blogging its not quite how it used to be!! x

  22. What a heartfelt list. I’m the same way, sensitive and a loyal friend. When you are an open person it’s easier to get hurt. But at the same time, you get to experience more emotions than someone who is closed off. #TheList xx

  23. Fantastic list – the things that you don’t like about yourself are actually some of the best things about you. They make you, you, and a very nice rounded person. Urgh, I sound like someone’s mum giving them a pep chat, but it’s true. #the list

  24. Aby, we sound so similar. I agree on every point except number one. I would wish instead that I could relax and let the house me messy and not let it stress me out.

You are doing fab with your weight loss. 🙂

  25. I’m definitely with you on the messy part! I am just such a messy person – I come home in the evening and just dump stuff everywhere! You are doing so fab on your weight loss journey, I definitely think you’ll achieve that feeling this year 🙂 #TheList

  26. Aby, you’re already doing so amazingly well on your weight loss journey, you’ll should be proud. As for the confidence thing – I know you could never be big-headed having met you and read your blog for a long time. But as a blogger, you’re right, you have to get used to drawing attention to yourself and your achievements, which takes me out of my comfort zone too. But you deserve the success you’ve achieved, and you should take a lot of confidence in your abilities from that. xxx

Ah Jess thanks so much for your lovely comment. That really does mean a lot. Sounds like we both need to leap out of our comfort zone xx

  27. What an interesting and rather brave idea for a post, to focus on what you wish you weren’t. Sometimes we all focus on the bits about ourselves we don’t like rather than what we do…why is that? I’m always thinking similar things but we can’t change who we are. You are beautiful and super talented so focus on your the positives and never ever wish you weren’t as good a friend because that would be a huge shame. If someone doesn’t appreciate you, it is them that needs to change to see how lucky they are to have you as a friend. xxx

  28. Totally agree with the messy house one! Life is just too short to spend all day tidying up! As for the loyal friend one, I don’t think that’s a weakness at all. Your real friends will love you for it – it’s about finding the ones who are your true friends! #TheList

  29. A great list – and I suspect like many of us at times you’re too harsh on yourself. And yes, life’s too short for dusting! Why do you think for many years I played sport on a Saturday – yeap, to get out of housework 😉 #thellist

  30. You know what? I honestly don’t spend time wishing I could change things about myself. Because if I did change things about my personality, like being a messy mare, then I just wouldn’t be me, would I?!
There’s nothing wrong with just being yourself – being yourself is the best way to be. 🙂

  31. I can relate to nearly all these points, especially being sensitive. Please don’t be too hard on yourself though, being a loyal friend is one of the best quality’s someone can have.

  33. I agree with you on the confidencr thing, ice lost it completely since going on nat leave, as for the friends thing. Well ive hardened up & sacked a few fair weathered ones for being two faced. Life’s too short to invest in false friendships. #thelist

  34. I think that a lot of people feel these things some of the time. I can definitely agree with all of them. I think that the last one is the most difficult to deal with, but I think that I am not going to waste time on people who don’t treat me the way I would treat them.

  35. I so understand number 5. I will do anything for anyone. Herself says I just cant say no.

I agree with you on confidence/arrogance. But I’d rather lack confidence than be a big head.

    Another great post.

  36. Aww Aby 🙁 You need to give yourself a bit more credit lovely x From an outsider looking in you seem confident and happy, successful and strong 🙂 At least your blog is super organised and not messy xx

  38. Messy- yep guilty- drives my husband crazy! Do those houses with no clutter really exist? Your blog, social media strategy is all super organised… Who cares what the house is like? As for overweight.. What? You look fabulous. Now, you need to do a list of 5 things you are!! Focus on the positive #thelist

  39. I can definitely identify with some of these, especially the confidence one. I’m always too worried about what other people will think #TheList

  40. The things you listed are not really bad things at all, you should be proud of them. My list would be a lot longer than 5! I wish I were more of a domestic goddess, but I’m not – I hate cleaning and avoid it where possible. I also wish I had more confidence, was more outgoing, and the list goes on…!

  41. Oh, it’s such a shame you wish you were less loyal as a friend! It’s a great quality and one I totally value in others. What do I wish I wasn’t? A perfectionist. Overweight (I am also in the process of losing extra weight- it’s been ‘extra’ for about 15 years..). As introspective as I am. As rubbish at keeping in touch with old friends. As addicted to chocolate…!

Well as I said it would be on both my positive and negative list. I am happy I am loyal, but it would have saved me much heartache if I wasn’t x

  42. Oh my – honestly – Mummy’s list would be EXACTLY the same. Except she once was a skinny thing – having us children put pay to that! YOu are lovely as you are – having a friend like you would be fab x x

  43. Fab! That’s a fantastic theme for a list, I love it. I also struggle with confidence and am definitely over sensitive! x

  44. Finally catching up on commenting on last weeks #TheList!
I can certainly relate to being messy. I try to fight with clutter, and to an extend I have won, by giving lots and lots of stuff to charity shop. Somehow there’s still so much left…

  45. My house is a shit hole! So I join you with this one and all of the others in fact.
But you’re a beautiful, successful woman with a lush husband and baby and with a million friends. Have faith in that….the rest doesn’t matter!
    Xx
